Day 1
Makgadikgadi Salt Pans – Adventurer’s Delight
The Makgadikgadi Pans are a vast expanse of salt desert in northeastern Botswana that are part of the greater Kalahari. Your international flight will arrive in Maun, and a representative will help you connect to your scheduled flight to the Kalahari Desert. Upon landing, a private driver will transfer you to your luxurious tented safari camp on the edge of the salt pans. In the dry season, sun-baked pans offer a unique salt desert experience with activities that include bush walks, game drives, horseback riding, and quad bike adventures. The rains of the wet season attract flocks of pink flamingos and Africa’s largest zebra migration.

There aren't enough superlatives to describe our safari. Every single aspect exceeded expectations. The Zicasso trip designer, who handled the in-country arrangements, was terrific, and literally every arrangement went smoothly. A few last-minute changes on the front and back end were handled effectively.
Each of the camps was different, but wonderful in its own way. We liked the variation. The accommodations were great and the food was great. But the people – hosts, driver/guides, spotters, service personnel were really great – friendly, fun, helpful, enjoyable to be with, and really great. It's difficult to put into words how much we enjoyed being with them and with each other (me, my five adult children, and their spouses). And the wildlife and landscapes, again, quite different over the three camps, were spectacular. Every game drive was a much-anticipated adventure and the guides were, to a person, superb in helping us understand the animal behaviors we observed.
There is nothing we would have done differently and we were constantly amazed at how smoothly everything worked out (literally no hitches, even minor ones), how much fun we had with each other and our hosts, and how much the people we were with contributed to our experience. I'm not given to hyperbole, but I'm left without words to describe how great the experiences we had were and how seamless the arrangements seemed to be.

The Zicasso travel company was a pleasure to work with and their attention to every detail was much appreciated. Communication from our agents was open and clear. Their experience and insights were invaluable to making our safari an amazing experience.
Our trip included stops at three camps, each with a unique and different perspective. The accommodations, food, and service at these camps were outstanding and tailored to us. The guides for the game drives were all exceptional, with deep knowledge about the animals and plants. They went above and beyond to ensure we saw the complete variety of animals and were able to capture amazing photos. This trip was truly an epic adventure and exceeded our expectations.

This Zicasso company provided what we consider the best experience in our long history of travel. They were easy to work with and planned not only great adventures, but great accommodations! They were responsive before, during, and after the trip. As a result of this experience, we will be planning another trip with this company!
