Bajos del Toro – Arrive in San Jose and Travel to Bajos del Toro
San Jose retains the same active spirit and bustling nature you remember from your last Costa Rica vacation. The Central Market continues to bustle with the stunning colors of mango, pineapple, passion fruit, and papaya. The aroma of cherimoya soup drifts through the aisles, emanating from the sodas, small restaurants serving traditional dishes. The handmade crafts filling the lanes of the Outdoor Market at Museo Nacional still hold the charming allure connected to the customs of the Central Valley and greater Costa Rica.
Your flight lands at Juan Santamaria International Airport, where your private transfer greets you upon arrival. As you make your way out of the city, your driver points to the mountain ridges encircling the Central Valley. A slight blue haze dwindles over the verdant crops. Your driver calls the ridge the “Coffee Line,” the demarcation at around 5,575 feet above sea level where the coffee in the Central Valley ceases to grow. You are excited for this new experience visiting the area of Bajos del Toro, which offers the biodiversity of the cloud forest, along with luxurious amenities and wildlife, away from the crowds of Monteverde.
The roads take you around the bubbling activity of the Poas Volcano. You travel over the steep mountain ridges where the air is noticeably crisper than that of the Central Valley. The cooler temperature overtakes the landscape as you reach the remote comforts of your eco-resort where you will take the time to relax surrounded by the serene sounds of nature. Your private suite offers a remarkable view over the canopy, while your Jacuzzi on the patio provides a soothing, private experience in which to indulge in the beginnings of your Costa Rica vacation.

Zicasso’s travel specialist was a dream. We booked our trip quite late, but they were still able to put together an amazing itinerary, with beautiful hotels, wonderful meals, and incredible activities and adventures, and everything went off without a hitch. We couldn't believe how every single time we had something planned, a driver showed up on time, was super-friendly, and everything went really smoothly. And the owner was always available to tweak things on the fly when necessary. It was just wonderful.

Everything went smoothly and the hotels were great. We really liked our guide for the Bijagua cooking tour. Also, kudos to our driver. Sadly, it poured rain for both of our horseback tours, so they were cancelled. The food was excellent, especially the treetop dining experience! Thank you to Zicasso’s travel company!

I want everyone to know how pleased we were with the trip Zicasso’s travel specialist planned for our one-week vacation in Costa Rica. We arranged our travel through a travel company via Zicasso and our goal was to have as stress-free a vacation as possible. I only had a general idea of what we wanted to do and the travel specialist took it from there.
He designed a seven-day itinerary, with three days near Arenal Volcano and three days in Manuel Antonio on the Pacific coast. He suggested several excursions and we were able to quickly choose activities and set the pace of the trip to match our preferences. Once finalized, we were excited and ready to go.
When we arrived in San José, we were met at the airport and from that point on he handled everything seamlessly. The drivers for our transfers were bilingual, engaging, and shared insights about the people, politics, agriculture, and natural environment. Those conversations made the travel time enjoyable and informative.
Each excursion met or exceeded expectations. The guides were knowledgeable and passionate, giving us a new appreciation for coffee, chocolate, spices, and Costa Rica’s natural beauty.
One of the biggest advantages of working with the travel specialist was how he handled the unexpected. When we encountered an issue with one of our rooms, I contacted him and he resolved it quickly—he were in a new room within an hour. He also checked in three times during the week to ensure everything was going smoothly.
In conclusion, if you are looking for an authentic, stress-free vacation in Costa Rica, I highly recommend working with this travel specialist. He was excellent and we will absolutely engage him for our next trip.

It was very well organized. The driver coming from San José to pick us up was late because of traffic. Zicasso’s travel specialist arranged another vehicle to drive us to a meeting point, where we saw a toucan and took many photos. So a delay was turned into an opportunity. Great job!

We worked with Zicasso’s travel agency to plan our honeymoon and overall had a great experience.
There were a few communication hiccups during the trip, which caused some initial stress. However, what really stood out was how our agent handled it.
He took ownership, stayed responsive, and made sure everything was addressed. He ultimately delivered a well-organized, thoughtful itinerary that allowed us to truly enjoy our honeymoon without worrying about logistics.
We felt taken care of throughout the trip, as well as afterwards. We would recommend this travel company to anyone thinking about going to Costa Rica or Central America, for that matter.
