Day 1

Ushuaia – Board your Luxury Cruise Ship to Set Sail

Ushuaia is a young city when compared to the capitals of South American countries. The settlement at the end of the South American continent dates back to the 1880s when an Argentine expedition arrived to establish a sub-prefecture. Along with the government envoy was 300 Anglican missionaries who built the first houses in the region and took to evangelizing the local native population. The city has grown leaps and bounds since its inception nearly 130 years ago, and colorful homes line the streets and weave between the snow-capped peaks of the Martial Range and the rippling cobalt waters of the Beagle Channel.

The greater region of Tierra del Fuego holds the secrets of the Patagonia region and remnants of the native population’s rich history that dates back nearly 10,000 years, long before the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan first sailed around the tip of the South American continent in the 16th century. Your flight will land at Malvinas Argentinas International Airport, where your private transfer will greet you upon arrival. You will soon reach the port to board your vessel bound for Antarctica, and likely stay on the deck of the ship to enjoy the view that encompasses the mountain slopes and sporadic pockets of lenga forest. The southern hemisphere summer averages a daytime warmth of 57 degrees, and your vessel offers luxurious accommodations and a hull protected and strengthened for travel through the icy channels.

Detailed Description

Chart your course destined for the excitement of the Seventh Continent on your 11-day Antarctica cruise that will bring you into the splendor of untamed nature. Images of the continent reflect terrain awash with snow and ice captured in the freezing climate near the South Pole, but Antarctica teems with life, history, and adventure for an extraordinary experience for thrill-seekers, eager explorers, or first-time adventurers interested in a new destination. Your Antarctica tour will begin with your arrival in Ushuaia, Argentina as your private transfer will escort you from the airport to the port to board your ship and set sail across the Beagle Channel.

While traveling across the Drake Passage to reach the Southern Ocean, you can relax in your luxurious cabin, enjoy the gourmet cuisine, listen to fascinating lectures, and observe the wildlife from the ship’s top deck. Search the waters for minke, humpback, and orca whales, along with hourglass dolphins and five different species of seals. The skies fill with an extraordinary amount of sub-Antarctic and Antarctic sea birds, including albatross and skuas.

As you travel over the Antarctic Convergence to reach the South Shetland Islands en route to the Antarctic Peninsula, you will relish the feeling of adventure as you venture out on your zodiac boat to explore the iceberg-laden waterways. Search for elephant seals on Half Moon Island before reaching the protected cove at the Port of Circumcision on Petermann Island. Delight as you get close to colossal icebergs, trek the landscape over a variety of islands and along the beaches of the Antarctic Peninsula in search of different species of penguins. Visit the Wordie House and camp on the blanketing snow of the White Continent before venturing back towards Argentina by way of the Drake Passage.

Our trip was more than we could have hoped for. The care with which our trip was planned and executed by Zicasso's travel company was outstanding, as were the people, activities, and locations that were part of it all. Thank you very much. We’ll be in touch again.

Argentina, Uruguay Tour Review: Buenos Aires, Salta Province, Iguazu Falls, Wineries, Scenery, 1-Week Trip

Our Argentina trip was really fantastic! It's such a large country that it was hard to narrow down a few places to visit for our short time there. We decided on Buenos Aires, Salta Province, and Iguazú Falls (with a day trip to Uruguay).

Zicasso’s travel company was very easy to work with, being very open and accommodating to our ideas for the itinerary. They managed everything—booking hotels, car service, daily guides and tours, wineries, some restaurants, and our in-country flights. They were great in finding perfect guides to help us navigate where we went and offer lots of good historical information. The travel company was super-communicative, checking in with us almost daily and keeping track of our driver pick-ups and in-country flights.

I think the highlight for me was the Salta Province—it's such a remote area, but with the most beautiful and diverse scenery. The travel company found for us a fantastic driver/guide who did all the driving on some treacherous terrain, translated all our communication, and found some charming places to eat while on the road. He also was very thoughtful in downloading a playlist with music we had talked about liking and put together a short video of our travels as a keepsake. There were some fabulous wineries in the Salta region, so we felt like we experienced a large part of the province.

We also visited Iguazú Falls, which were spectacular from Argentina and Brazil. The travel company made it easy in booking us accommodations inside the national park so we could get an early start on our tour. Our guide there was also wonderful—she shared a lot of interesting information of the area and even told us about a restaurant back in Buenos Aires which we visited, which turned out to be one of the highlights of the trip.

I would highly recommend the travel company, which can plan a great trip from soup to nuts. The women we worked with were delightful to deal with and so welcoming and helpful.

Argentina Vacation Review: Buenos Aires, Bariloche, Salta, Iguazu Falls, Tango Lesson, Cooking Classes, Boat Trip, Hiking, 2 Weeks

Argentina was all we hoped for and more! Thank you to Zicasso’s travel specialist and the travel company for a beautiful and unforgettable trip!

Although we entered this journey with little knowledge of South America or Argentina, we were expertly guided by the travel specialist from the first conversation and over many others.

Our trip was tailored to many specifications—private tours, drivers, boutique hotels, restaurant reservations, and unique experiences. We felt very cared for and the lines of communication were open for any questions or guidance. We had a fabulous mix of nature and city—from the incredible Buenos Aires to Bariloche, Salta, and the Iguazú Falls.

Argentina is a large country that required good planning and navigation to optimize our experience over the two weeks we had. The travel specialist helped us organize an itinerary that kept us on schedule, with knowledgeable and fun English-speaking guides who met us at our hotels, local drivers, boats, and many planes. Her recommendations gave us experiences we might never have found or tried. We were leery of our private tango lesson and day in Tigre. With the travel specialist’s encouragement we agreed and these activities became some of our most memorable travel experiences. We were also able to incorporate some much-appreciated free time into our days for wandering or relaxation.

We would highly recommend the travel specialist and the travel company to personalize a trip to Argentina. Thank you again!!!!
