On the first day of your couple's retreat, you will touch down in sunny Lima along the sparkling coastline. Waves crash against the sandy shores and seagulls flock to the rocky cliff sides. Families gather in verdant plazas to soak up the sun and enjoy a light picnic. Meanwhile, couples sit along mosaic-tiled benches overlooking the waterfront. Once you have landed in Lima, you will meet your expert guide who will accompany you throughout your journey in Peru. Together, you will board your private ground transport en route to your luxury hotel in the heart of Miraflores, the most prestigious area in all of Peru. You and your partner can indulge in the beautiful views from your private hotel balcony before venturing into the city for a bit of exploration.
You can begin by meandering along the coastline as you watch sky gliders plummet from rocky cliff sides to the sandy beaches below. Circle the iconic La Marina lighthouse and enjoy your first meal in Peru at a five-star restaurant nearby. After dinner, you two can watch the sunset from the mosaic benches of the illustrious Parque del Amor greenscape.
Lima – Tour of Historic Downtown and Ceviche Cooking Class
In the morning, you will wake to the buzz of city life below as cafes begin to stir with customers and taxis round busy plazas. You can begin the day with a beautiful array of locally sourced fruit, like maracuya and chirimoya, along with tea or coffee and tostada. Soon, you will meet your guide in the hotel lobby and set out to explore Lima's historic downtown. Together, you will stroll through the Plaza de Armas and sit beneath shady palm trees as you explore intricate stonework and elaborate wood balconies emblematic of Spanish colonial design. You can step inside Lima's grand basilica, and even venture below ground to the historic catacombs. Finally, you will travel even farther back in time when you visit the Huaca Pucllana pyramid, first built by the Lima Culture between the years 200 and 700 AD.
In the afternoon, you and your partner will roll up your sleeves to take part in a private couple's cooking class. Together, you will work with a world-renowned chef to make Peru's coveted lemon-lime seafood dish known as ceviche. Afterward, you and your partner can enjoy your creation from a private balcony with a glass of red wine as you look out on the twinkling street lights.
Cusco – Plaza de Armas and Illustrious San Blas
The following day, you will board a regional flight to Cusco, the birthplace of the Inca Empire. Today will be a fun-filled day of exploration as you get to know the many historical sites as well as hotbeds of cultural activity. After leaving your belongings at your quaint accommodations in the white stucco neighborhood of San Blas, you can meander down narrow cobbled streets to the central Plaza de Armas. Crowds gather to sip on fresh fruit juices around an ornate fountain, and backpackers make their way to Cusco cathedral or nearby cafes as they rest up before setting out on the Inca Trail. You can spend the morning exploring open-aired markets like the San Pedro Market before lunching at a sunkissed patio in San Blas.
In the afternoon, you will visit some of Cusco's most prized historical gems, including the Qorikancha Sun Temple along the Avenida del Sol, built with such fortitude by the Incas that the temple withstood three separate earthquakes. Later that day, you will venture beyond the city to explore Saqsayhuaman, the great Incan fortress, and Tambomachay, which once served as the spa baths for the Inca elite.
Sacred Valley – Thrilling Zipline Ride and Sky Lodge Accommodation
The next day of your couple's trip to Peru will constitute an adrenaline rush and a day filled with excitement. After a light breakfast beside your hotel in San Blas, you will board private transportation and begin to snake your way through the Sacred Valley en route to Machu Picchu. You can both stare out the windows as you pass majestic rolling hills that morph into the rugged mountain peaks of the Andes. Small villages and farmlands dot the horizons as cattle graze nearby. Rushing waters of the Urubamba River churn past as you cross vibrant bridges and unassuming ancient relics of the Inca Empire.
By mid-day, you are in for an adventure as you join a local expert guide on a hiking and zipline expedition—trek through thick vegetation filled with beautiful flowers and sweet-smelling aromas. Then, take off on a breathtaking zipline ride across the valley. Later that evening, you will arrive at your private sky lodge accommodation, a glass-enclosed dome of sorts that offers panoramic views of the valley below. You and your partner will enjoy a romantic evening as a locally-sourced traditional Andean meal is delivered to you. Then, relax at night as you look out on the starry black sky.
Machu Picchu/Aguas Calientes – UNESCO Ruins
In the morning, you will set out for the internationally acclaimed UNESCO ruins. You will board a luxury train in the early daylight hours from the neighboring city of Ollantaytambo. From inside the train car, you can enjoy panoramic views of the valley outstretched around you, with glass panels overhead as well. You will also enjoy a steeping cup of mate de coca tea on board. While there is a drop in altitude from Cusco to Machu Picchu, some travelers may still benefit from altitude sickness remedies. You will marvel at the soaring rocky mountainsides as you near the base town of Aguas Calientes. Your guide will meet you at the train station and accompany you to your luxury lodge accommodations.
Then, by mid-morning, you will set out with your guide for the ruins themselves. A brief bus ride up steep switchback roads will provide you with idyllic views of the cloud forest below before stepping foot at the site of the ruins. Spend the day uncovering key features of the ruins, including the Temple of Three Windows and the Principal Plaza. You may even get a lucky shot of a llama or alpaca in your photos as they graze freely around the site. Finally, you can visit the Old City Gates of Machu Picchu, the entryway for hikers along the Inca Trail.
Machu Picchu/Aguas Calientes – Scenic Hike and Hot Springs
During the second day that you spend at the ruins, you and your partner will have a chance to explore some of the sites on your own, including Sacred Rock, the Temple of the Condor, the Royal Tomb, and Intihuatana. You will also hear more from your guide about the Inca ceremonial and spiritual practices of the time period.
In the afternoon, you will have the option to continue to explore the ruins at the ground level or break away to indulge on a riveting hike just beyond the ruins. The peak of Huayna Picchu, often pictured to the rear of Machu Picchu, although challenging, also provides excellent views of the surrounding Andes mountains and a bird's eye perspective on the ruins themselves. Of course, it's also the perfect photo-taking opportunity. In the evening, you will return to the base town of Aguas Calientes and can enjoy a three-course meal as local acoustic bands, and flute players serenade you with traditional Peruvian music. Then, you can unwind when you and your partner soak in the medicinal hot springs for which the town gets its name amongst thick vegetation and a starry night sky.
Lima – Airport Departure
This day signifies the final leg of your journey back to Cusco and your last day in Peru. You will awake to the chirping of exotic birds and the rushing waters of the Urubamba River. You can pack your bags, then enjoy a breakfast of fresh fruit and tea from your private lodge balcony. Then, you will meet your guide in your hotel lobby and once again board the luxury train service through the captivating Sacred Valley. As the train chugs along, you will catch final glimpses of the sunkissed fields and stoic Inca ruins perched atop hillsides or nestled amongst unassuming farmland.
Once you arrive in Cusco, you will board a regional flight back to Lima. From Lima's airport, you can connect to your international flight home. As you wait at the plane gate, you and your partner can look back on a few trip photos favorites and almost taste the citrusy flavors of Lima's ceviche or the sweet fruits in Aguas Calientes. You will be in awe as you look back at pictures from deep within the Sacred Valley and atop Machu Picchu's summit.
