Detailed Description

The great flavors of Italy are not just in the food but are also lively in the wine and landscapes and can be experienced on this 10-day tour through the north. There is endless wonder in the mountains that take you drifting across the lakes to Switzerland and back. Down into the Piedmont Hills, through castles, into Venice, and visiting the homes of Romeo and Juliet in Verona, the greatest wines will be tasted, stunning food will be made, and the splendor of your time throughout northern Italy will always be savored.

Your exploration begins with your arrival in Milan, the fashion capital of the world and a city brimming with life throughout the day. The Duomo is an architectural and artistic sensation within the open central square of the city. The following day you will find yourself in Santa Maria delle Grazie and discover its remarkable artistry including the Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci. When you leave the city behind, you will come to the coveted Lakes Region, home to the marvelous Lake Maggiore and the breathtaking Lake Como. You will be guided through the landscape and its magnificent allure, from rising mountains to immaculate waters, including ornate palaces on the shores and islands within the lakes.

When you reach the medieval town of Alba you will find the intoxicating scent of truffles calling to you. A half-day cooking class will take you into the Piedmont hills within a castle that overlooks the landscape. An acclaimed chef will teach you the techniques of the local cuisine, filled with stories told with each bite. In the afternoon you will venture deeper into the hills to visit the local wine museum and to taste the revered wines of the area, including Barolo. In Lake Garda you will traverse Italy’s largest body of water and visit the castle of Scaligero, whose grand structure offers wondrous views of the vista. In Venice you will stroll along the canal, visiting the images that have graced postcards for years; St. Mark’s Square, the Doge’s Palace, and the Rialto Bridge, and cruising along the quiet canal on a gondola ride to absorb a richer sense of the city. Your final day will have you in the eloquent streets of Verona, visiting the legendary homes of Romeo and Juliet.
