Reykjavik – Arrive in Iceland and Relax with a Moment at the Blue Lagoon

Your flight will arrive at Keflavik International Airport and provide your first view of the majestic Iceland countryside. Meet your private transfer at baggage claim and step out onto the edge of the western shores. The airport is located on the Reykjanes Peninsula and is surrounded by lush plains, rolling hills, and edged by the cobalt waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Sporadic homes and buildings make the region look sparse in inhabitants and spread out across the peninsula. You will soon reach the facilities of the celebrated Blue Lagoon Spa, famous for its relaxing atmosphere and nutrient rich mud.

A concierge will greet you with a smile and welcome you to the spa. The opulent décor and pristine interior provide a private place for your to change into your bathing suit and rinse in the shower as outside the steam rises in puffy clouds from the heated pool. The cloudy blue water spreads against the framing, craggy hills as a wooden platform leads you from the land into the water, allowing you to immerse yourself in the soothing heat, which reaches its hottest temperature at 102 degrees Fahrenheit. The geothermal activity in the region fills the soil with rich, healing minerals.

The spa officially opened in the 1990s but locals have bathed in the lagoon since the 1980s after rumors spread about the soil’s healing properties. Boxes positioned around the lagoon allow visitors to dip their hands into the local mud and spread the nutrient-rich soil across their skin. After a few minutes, the mud dries, telling you it’s time to rinse the nutrients away. Your skin feels smooth and healthy after a single use, and your mind and body will feel refreshed after your time spent lingering in the water. You could even grab a cocktail from the bar and sip a cold drink as you bask in the hot water.

Detailed Description

Iceland is a legend in and of itself with the unique combination of nature and culture found throughout its remote regions. This 11-day tour is perfect for nature lovers and heritage seekers, waterfall enthusiasts and seafarers. Travel to Iceland’s secluded Westfjords to observe the lava fields and farmlands, moors and mountain passes. Feel the mist of surging waterfalls and enjoy the relaxing embrace of hot springs. Your adventure will begin with your arrival at Keflavik International Airport, and your private transfer will lead you from the airport to the facilities at the Blue Lagoon Spa. Spend some time refreshing your senses in the naturally heated pool before settling into your luxury hotel in Reykjavik.

Wake the next day to travel north and through the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. Savor your view of the Snaefellsjokull Fjord and then stare in awe at the Eldborg Crater. Follow the trails around the Gerduberg Basalt Columns before visiting the pillars of Djupalonssandur and the town of Hellissandur. The following day, you will make your way to the town of Stykkisholmur to enjoy the scenery of the seaside. Step aboard the Baldur Ferry to travel the Bay and explore the small islands and the secluded region of the Westfjords. Move next to take in the steep mountains, stunning bays, and finger-like fjords of the region. Spend time with the birdlife at Latrabjarg Cliffs, home to one of the largest puffin colonies in Iceland.

The following day will bring you south and along the fjords to follow the mountain passes and steep cliffs to Dynjandi, a splendid tiered waterfall. Visit the Osvor Museum for a sample of the regional heritage that offers exhibits on the history of the town of Isafjordur and how the population has survived the extreme conditions. The next day, you will enjoy a scenic drive along the fjords to take in the sightline of Vigur Island en route to the town of Holmavik. Visit the Museum of Sorcery and Witchcraft for insight into the region’s connection to the mystical, and then follow the trails around the bays and mountains the next day before relaxing in a hot spring pool at the base of Krossnesfjall that overlooks the Atlantic Ocean.

Move next to explore the Vatsnes Peninsula to visit a farm and search for the seals that lazily relax on the beaches and then find an ancient fortress on the basalt cliffs. The following day, travel to take in the Grabrok Crater and Deildartunguhver Hot Spring before viewing the waterfalls of Hraunfossar and Barnafoss. At Thingvellir National Park, you can traverse the trails and learn the history of the area before dipping into the cold waters of the Silfra fissure on a snorkeling expedition. The next day, travel the remaining lengths of the Golden Circle to visit the erupting geysers and spectacular waterfalls en route to Reykjavik. Your private transfer will then meet you in the lobby of your hotel the next morning and escort you to Keflavik International Airport for your flight home.

Iceland, Norway Travel Review: Reykjavik, Hallgrimskirkja, Bergen, Flam, Balestrand, Ring Road, Troll Tour, Cider Tasting, 12 Nights

We loved the troll tour of the Ring Road. Our guide was great. It was very active, with some hilly climbs, which were challenging. Most of the tour hotels were good, but there were limited food choices in some locations, especially for vegetarians.

Our hotel in Reykjavík was fun and we enjoyed the restaurant there. The hotel was a bit noisy at night. We found and recommend a local café across from the Hallgrímskirkja as well.

In Norway, we loved our rooms in Bergen, looking out on the water. Our driver there was very nice. We enjoyed the train to Flåm, but wished we’d had two nights in our hotel in Balestrand, as it was exceptional. Food was included and very nice. We might have enjoyed a day tour with a local guide if we’d had more time. The ferries worked well.

Thank you!

Iceland Tour Review: Glacier Lagoon, Gulfoss, Godafoss, Boat Ride, Whale Watching, Waterfalls, 1-Week Trip

I received a well-planned itinerary from Zicasso's tour operator. I would use them if another trip comes up. The tour operator and the agent were very responsive to my questions; the app they sent me covered nearly all aspects of the trip and itinerary, and was very helpful in keeping me on track. Their service was of the highest level.

Iceland Travel Review: Scenery, 9-Day Trip

Zicasso's travel designer and the tour operator set up a great schedule. I was actually very surprised by how well the activities were balanced throughout the day. I never ran out of things to do and only had to skip a few locations on one day, most likely my fault for enjoying the places for too long at the beginning of the day. I would highly recommend the tour operator for setting up a great schedule for your visit to Iceland and booking all the necessities (e.g. car, hotel rooms, etc.).

They were also very helpful leading up to the trip to accommodate some last-minute changes and to help answer all of my questions before I arrived. Thank you so much for helping to create some great memories of my time in Iceland!
