Detailed Description

The exceptional flavors of the Adriatic are yours to indulge in on this 11-day journey through diverse culture, all by sampling the local cuisine. Venture through the Western Adriatic and along the Julian Alps where you will discover the incredible gastronomical traditions that have somehow been hidden from the world until now. The landscapes are captivating and the cuisine is spellbinding. Visit Croatia, Slovenia, and northeastern Italy to find the flavors that have been missing, all wrapped up on this gourmet journey through family-run haciendas waiting for you.

Your gastronomic enlightenment begins with your arrival in Oprtalj, a hillside village that overlooks the Adriatic Sea and the rolling hills of the horizon. In the evening you will be welcomed to the region with a delectable dinner at Brtonigla. The following morning you will have a delightful breakfast at Villa Angelica before venturing off on a truffle hunt that will take you into the glorious hillside. In the afternoon you arrive in Rovinj, the Istrian Venice, where you will see the buildings rise slightly above the sapphire water, before dining at the magnificent Monte Restaurant. The following morning you will venture out to Grožnjan for a day amongst the Istrian vintners. The flavors range from robust to delicate, familiar to exotic; afterwards you will dine at Damir and Ornella in Novigrad.

Make your way to the foothills of the Slovenian Alps and find the tremendous Škocjan caves en route. The powerful and inspiring UNESCO World Heritage site shows you the power and mystique of nature. In the evening you will come to the town of Kobarid, where you will have an exquisite meal at the stunning Hiša Franko with a view of the open plain and rising Alps. Visit the Kobarid Museum, which houses informative exhibitions on World War I and its effect on the surrounding region. In the afternoon you will visit Cividale di Fruili, a town over the Italian border with roots dating back to 53 BC.

The excitement abounds as you venture to Agli Amici for dinner where an eight-course traditional meal and delicious wine accompaniment awaits you. In the wine-region of Goriška Brda, you will stay at a renovated castle where a tasting in the wine cellar offers you flavors of the countryside that have rarely, if ever, left the region. You taste cheeses and yogurt at the Zoff Family Dairy Farm and can sample a five-course meal at Al Giardino in Cormons. Your final gourmet day finds you in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia filled with elegance and class. Traverse Old Town where magic comes to life. Your grand finale dinner has you sitting in Pri Lojzetu where an unforgettable seven-course meal paired with local exquisite wines brings you home.

Italy Travel Review: Lake Como, Ostuni, Private Boat Tour,...

Zicasso's travel designer did a terrific job. We had the initial phone consult, after which she delivered a first draft of the itinerary. From there, she helped guide us through a few revisions until we got the details smoothed out. We are experienced travelers and can appreciate a well-constructed trip, and that's what our experience with our agent reflected.

One crucial thing is that all the drivers who are engaged to move you around are prompt. Every one of them was right on time and friendly and helpful to boot. It was much appreciated.

To sum up our experience, I would do it all again with Zicasso and the agency and our agent. Our trip to Italy in the late summer of 2025 was something we will not soon forget!

Italy Tour Review: Vatican, Colosseum, Roman Forum, Pompeii,...

Zicasso's travel agency far exceeded our expectations. We had our five-year-old and 11-year-old children with us, so the tour guides and walking needed to be kid-friendly.

Our hotel in Rome was wonderful, the location was perfect, and they had good A/C and a breakfast buffet. There were plenty of great restaurants within easy walking distance, as well as the Vatican.

Our tour guide for the Colosseum and Roman Forum was great. Pompeii was amazing. Our tour guide was basically a celebrity down there and knew exactly how to take us around the ruins without ever waiting.

Tuscany was our favorite by far. We did a cheese-making experience and lunch that was super-cool. The kids got to play with the farm animals and the owners were so attentive and interesting. We did a cooking class with a chef that was the kids' favorite thing on the entire trip. I would make a point to book this experience; the kids still talk about it and wear the aprons around the house. The resort in Tuscany was nice. We had our own private pool, plus the resort pool, and could easily walk to a small local town with some great food.

Venice was good, but probably our least favorite on the trip. You have to walk a ton, which was difficult for the kids, but it's still worth experiencing.

We travel a bunch and I would highly recommend using Zicasso's travel partner.
