Oprtalj - Over Land and Sea
Begin your Croatia tour by arriving in the small village of Oprtalj by way of Trieste, Italy. There is no doubt that the beauty outside of the windows en route to the small village is breathtaking. It looks like you have ventured into the Tuscan hills, or have hidden away in the Austrian countryside; except you have made your way into Croatia, an undoubtedly beautiful country that continues to live in wonderful partial-secrecy. Located in on the largest peninsula in the Adriatic Sea, the greenery carpets the hills where vineyards run along the terraces; you can look out into the vast rolling landscape and see mountains at the horizon.
A cool breeze strokes your hair and the surrounding leaves. There is a natural draw for any and every level of foodie, from those who have searched their entire life for authentic cuisine hidden in the mountaintops of distant lands, to people that just want to enjoy a tasty meal in the comfort of beautiful scenery and unparalleled company. Near the village is the location where Giancarlo Zigante discovered the world’s largest truffle in 1999. From truffles to the Renaissance the region’s cultured love of olive and wine-growing, the aromas that pass through the hills make your mouth water as the scenery welcomes you to someplace like home.

Slovenia is a beautiful country and the capital, Ljubljana, is picturesque. The old town was the cleanest European city we have ever visited. The hotel there was hands down our favorite hotel of the trip. The building was so unique and the renovation was very well done. The staff was exemplary and the breakfast was delicious. But it was Croatia (again) that was the most interesting and intriguing country to tour.

We had never taken a private tour before and Zicasso’s travel company provided a safe, secure, and very interesting experience at all the sites we wanted to visit. I cannot imagine having a better driver and guide. His insights into Slovene culture were invaluable. He was patient, flexible, and an excellent driver on narrow alpine roads.

I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding the complete failure of service, communication, and quality during our recent trip to Croatia and Slovenia. We selected this agency through Zicasso specifically because the travel specialist listened to our request for "very nice hotels" and a relaxed itinerary with plenty of downtime.
Unfortunately, after paying our deposit, we experienced a bait-and-switch that entirely ruined our vacation. We were ignored for months, passed off to an aggressive agent who refused to listen, and ultimately handed to another travel specialist right before departure.
The agency completely failed to deliver on the promised quality, resulting in the following critical issues:
Dubrovnik: We were assigned one of the two worst rooms at our hotel in Dubrovnik, directly facing a loud main road with a view of weeds. The room literally shook from mountain drilling outside, forcing us to demand a relocation. The travel specialist's delay in responding left us stranded during a stressful situation.
Split: Our room at the hotel in Split was incredibly cramped. Furthermore, the agency failed to secure our promised restaurant reservation. We were forced to sit in the bar area rather than the upscale dining room we requested, and the agent's text correspondence regarding this failure was highly unprofessional.
Rovinj: The selected hotel in Rovinj was depressing, entirely dark inside, and had a broken elevator. We were forced to haul our bags up to the third floor.
Ljubljana: Our hotel in Ljubljana was visibly dirty and heavily mildewed, which triggered severe allergies. The travel agent's claims that these were "upgraded rooms" felt insulting given the poor living conditions.
Itinerary Flaws: Our explicit request for downtime was completely ignored, leaving us physically exhausted instead of refreshed.
While our drivers and tour guides were excellent, the administrative planning, hotel vetting, and customer communication from your agency were completely unacceptable. You did not deliver the "nice hotels" or the experience we paid for.
Because of these compounding failures, the broken elevator, and the unmade reservations, we are requesting a significant financial partial refund for the drop in accommodation quality, alongside a refund of the agency's planning margins.
We look forward to a swift joint response from both agency management and Zicasso to resolve this matter before we take further action.
Sincerely,
Gayle C.

Our trip to Kotor, Montenegro, and Dubrovnik, Croatia, was absolutely incredible, and we have our Zicasso travel specialist to thank for making it completely seamless from start to finish.
Every detail was thoughtfully planned, from beautiful accommodations and smooth transfers to world-class tour guides and activity and restaurant recommendations that let us experience these destinations like locals. Kotor's breathtaking bay, charming Old Town, and mountain views were unforgettable, while Dubrovnik exceeded every expectation with its rich history, gorgeous waters, and incredible food.
What impressed us most was how effortless everything felt. We never had to worry about logistics, which allowed us to truly relax and enjoy every moment. The itinerary struck the perfect balance between sightseeing, exploring on our own, and simply soaking in the beauty of the Adriatic.
Our trip with Zicasso's travel company exceeded all possible expectations! Our travel specialist paid great attention to our specific travel wish list and activity limitations due to traveling with a young child. She created an unforgettable experience. I can't recommend this travel company enough. This was one of the best trips we've ever taken and we can't wait to plan our next adventure with them!
