Detailed Description

From colorful woodlands to cosmopolitan capitals and from medieval strongholds to elegant wines, your 15-day Croatia and Slovenia tour will introduce you to the classic culture, splendor, and gorgeous architecture that the region has to offer. You will discover the beauty of glistening lakes and the enticing aroma of fresh coffee before experiencing the feeling of the sea breeze gently as it gently caresses your face and the charm of an antique town. Whether wandering the turquoise rivers of Slovenia or basking in the endless sunlight along the Dalmatian Islands, your tour will highlight the best of Slovenia and Croatia for countless memories and endless stories.

Your exploration of Slovenia and Croatia will begin with your arrival in Ljubljana, which is the capital of Slovenia and where you will stay for three nights. A walking tour of the city will reveal its classic appeal and remarkable history, and you will then have a full day of visiting the beautiful countryside around the Bohinj region and Lake Bled. Here, you will find enchanting villages, antique churches, and spectacular panoramic views. Traveling to Rovinj for two nights and visiting the Visit Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle will be your next experiences. After uncovering a vast network of subterranean caverns, an impenetrable fortress will highlight the unique contours of the region’s landscape. One night in Plitvice will then unveil the treasure of Plitvice Lakes National Park, where glassy lakes and thundering waterfalls decorate the surrounding hinterland.

You will then travel to Split for two nights but will stop in the town of Zadar along the way to find and ancient city that rivals Dubrovnik in both heritage and prestige. While in Split, you will have private tours that showcase the opulently preserved architecture and chic culture of the city before setting sail on a multi-day cruise around the Dalmatian Islands. Your skipper will lead you on a luxury catamaran to visit a selection of islands known for their hidden coves, crystal-clear waters, and historic towns that embody the local heritage, such as Milna, Komiza, and the island of Korcula.

After returning to shore, you will have three nights in Dubrovnik, and before reaching the city, a wine tasting at a celebrated vineyard near Ston will be made available to you. You can use your time to explore the city’s remarkable ramparts and stunning panoramas with a private guide and to discover the point at which eastern and western cultures converge in towns throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina. On your final day in Dubrovnik, your private transfer will lead you to the airport for your flight home.

Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro, Bosnia Tour Review: Dubrovnik,...

The entire nine days of travel from Slovenia to Montenegro were seamless as far as being picked up at the arrival airport and departure as planned. Transportaion was on schedule, which was important to me in a foreign country and eliminated any stress. Each private guide and/or driver throughout our trip was courteous and spoke English, which avoided any misunderstanding about all the wonderful sites we saw.

Lake Bled was absolutely wonderful. The guide parked the van at this family home four blocks from the lake and introduced us to his mother and sister, who welcomed us, and we saw how they lived in this beautiful village. The walk of four blocks to the lake also gave us the opportunity to see more of this quaint place to live. Since the lake does not allow power boats, we and about 20 other people were rowed to the island, where an ancient church was located. We found out that this family, in the past, were the caretakers of the island and our tour guide had to row himself to the shore to go to school and, in the winter, skate to school every day.

Next, we were driven to the castle on top of a small mountain, which had a perfect, 360-degree view of the area. Beautiful!

The next day we went to Plitvice Lakes National Park, with too many waterfalls to count and water that looked as crystal clear as any natural water I have ever seen. The four-kilometer walk upstream was nothing like I've ever seen in the USA.

We spent the night in a wonderful mountain lodge, with individual lodges and an upper-end-style bed and breakfast theme.

Split was a city with parts dating back to the third century, with many Roman influences in its many buildings.

Mostar in Bosnia was very interesting and had a central arch-style bridge which seemed to be a central point for all to see. There was so much we saw that it is too much to describe here.

We also stopped at a wine tasting at the most modern winery I've ever been to. It even had 12 guest rooms, with a pool.

On our way to Dubrovnik, we stopped at Ston to have an unbelievable lunch. At the restaurant, we had an oyster tasting of fresh oysters being farmed several hundred yards from the restaurant. We were served oysters three ways, from raw to fried and baked, and they were the best I will ever eat in my life.

We next went to Dubrovnik, which was particularly interesting to me because it is where Game of Thrones was filmed. Our guide was excellent, as he worked as a "roadie" for the film company, helping set the scenes by taking down modern signs or anything modern, and putting them back after filming. He had large screen shots in a spiral binder and would take us to a cove and hold up the screen shot of the actual scene from the movie to show us the similarity. His behind-the-scenes knowledge of the actors and the reaction from the town and church was beyond expectations. My wife and I were fans of GOT and so excited that we are going to watch if all again one day.

Our last day was in Montenegro, which again was beautiful, and we spent the day next to the water there. We were ferried to a man-made island with an old church on it.

Overall, the Adriatic Sea along the coast of these countries was one of the most beautiful stretches of water you could imagine.

Our expectations of this tour were met and exceeded.

Croatia, Slovenia Vacation Review: Hvar, Istria, Rovinj,...

Our trip was outstanding and I thank Zicasso's travel agency for helping it be so enjoyable and memorable. They planned a trip that catered to our needs and desires to do things that were a little different and less touristy. Every detail was planned perfectly and went off without issue, except for a mistake made by one of the hotels. What really impressed us was how they dealt with the situation and made it up to us afterwards with a couple of nice bottles of Croatian wine. We would recommend them to anyone looking for a special, customized trip to the region (which included Slovenia).

Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro Trip Review: Vintgar Gorge,...

We had the most amazing time on this trip, largely because Zicasso’s tour planner did such an awesome job planning it with us. She truly listened to the things we enjoy doing, seeing, and learning, and she hooked us up with really exceptional guides, drivers, and experiences that were exactly what we were looking for. Everything ran so smoothly; we could just relax and simply enjoy this vacation, even though it was quite complicated, with three hotels and three countries, and multiple excursions in nine days/eight nights.

Even when something unexpected happened (bad weather forced a boat excursion cancellation), she was immediately ready with a wonderful alternative activity that wound up being one of our favorites. She took the time to really understand us and what would make the best possible trip for us, and she was flexible, so likable, and easy to work with! I have never enjoyed planning vacations, but she made it really fun, and the end product was the favorite trip ever for all of our seven-person group, from the 20-somethings to the 60-somethings. Thank you to our agent!!!
