Opening Siem Reap
Siem Reap is a city on the fringe of the jungle trees and one which sits adjacent to ancient history. Arrive at the airport and be met by your private guide. Check in to the modern luxuries at your hotel where the rooms have a view of the lush jungle trees and the crisp pool. The lobby is a graceful display of lacquered wooden décor inspired by traditional Khmer design. Soon you will be on the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia, Tonle Sap where the breeze is cool and refreshing.
The water spritzes into the air. You see local longtail boats cruising on the water. Homes and villages are settled on the shores and grow distant. You arrive at a floating village and immediately notice the stilts that help keep the buildings afloat. The lake’s body undulates dramatically between dry and wet season. Clotheslines are strung between homes. Ladders rise from the water and meet the risen porches. Boats are tied and anchored around the stilts. The image of Cambodia has already been illuminated and possibly even transformed to hold a deeper meaning.

We traveled to Vietnam and Cambodia from May 8 to 22, 2025. This was my fifth trip through Zicasso. As expected, the itinerary was excellent and exactly what we were looking for. I did double my budget from what I initially sent to Zicasso.
All of the lodging selections were outstanding. Along with the tours of the Ho Chi Minh complex, Hue Imperial City, the Angkor Wat complex, and numerous other temples and pagodas, we experienced a cable car ride to a mountain summit, a walk through an ethnic village, a water puppet show, a Cambodian circus, a Vietnamese cooking class, an evening lantern boat ride in Hoi An, and dinner in one of the top 50 restaurants in Asia. The water puppets are an ancient Vietnamese art (11th century) and the show was extraordinary.

Zicasso’s travel agency worked patiently with us over several months to organize a perfect four-country tour through Indochina, doing exactly what we asked, including a Khmer cooking class with a local chef.
We were met on arrival in each county by an experienced English-speaking guide who was well-versed in the history, geography, and culture of each location, and they were just delightful people too. They took us to rural villages and through urban mazes to get a close look at the daily life of the citizens. We chatted with farmers in the field and had meals in local homes. Our agency booked amazing hotels for each stop, from an eco-lodge in the mountains of Vietnam to a spectacular seaside resort in Thailand.
We had contact names and numbers for agency representatives in each country. They were incredibly responsive, even after hours, when we had a small medical issue. They gave us a completely seamless experience from arrival to departure, with no wasted time. Vacation time is very precious, so we prefer to work with professionals who know the area intimately and take the time to understand our objectives rather than pushing a canned itinerary.

We recently completed a 29-day custom-designed tour of Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam with Zicasso’s travel company. As a couple, we have toured 100 countries on six continents. We always travel by ourselves and not in groups. We often plan and book our itinerary and activities on our own. We have experienced tour operators in the past who just string together “cookie-cutter” activities and call it a custom tour. I commend the travel company for not taking this path.
Our tour was completely tailored to our needs. We went through several iterations of the itinerary to match it to our interests and they were untiring in making adjustments to suit our particular needs. The hotels were all of excellent quality and very well located. The itineraries in each of the locations we visited met our expectations and addressed the interests we had discussed with the representatives of the travel company. All of the guides were good and several were amongst the best we have ever had. The support of the travel company was outstanding throughout our trip, with daily check-ins and immediate reactions when assistance was requested. I would rate the tour as exceptional. I unhesitatingly recommend the travel company.

We really enjoyed our trip. I'd like to give you a detailed review. Zicasso's travel agent did a great job setting up our itinerary. When we had a problem in Krabi, the team was great at helping resolve it.
Our evening food tour in Bangkok was a lot of fun and our guide was great at explaining a lot about the food. The guide who picked us up at the airport was excellent. He got us an extra SIM card. The next day, we had a wonderful experience with him at the Temple of Dawn and the Royal Palace. He took us to the airport and came in with us to make sure we were properly checked in.
Cambodia was an interesting trip. Unfortunately, the guide was not as good as all the other guides. He texted me that he was outside at the airport. I texted him back when we had our luggage and came outside. We couldn't find him for more than 15 minutes. All the other guides were lined up with signs. He finally showed up and said he had been sitting off to the side. He also did not have our SIM card. He said we couldn't stop for it because he had forgotten his ID card. He did bring the SIM cards to the hotel later. He was well-informed about the various sites we visited. At the end of the first day, when he was taking us back to the hotel, I mentioned we were supposed to go to the Killing Fields. He said he had forgotten and it was too hot and too late, even though we still had another hour of touring left. He rearranged our next two days so we could include the Killing Fields. On the last day, when he brought us to the airport, he dropped us off outside and left. This is not the attention we received from the other guides. I felt he knew the necessary information to share as a guide, but lacked the professionalism of the other guides.
Our guide in Chiang Rai/Chiang Mai was wonderful! She was very attentive, knowledgeable, and flexible, and a pleasure to spend time with. She also came into the airport with us when we were leaving to make sure everything was in order.
Krabi was nice and relaxing. There was a problem with our room at the hotel. They put us on a side where there was garbage and loud construction going on. When we originally booked Krabi, the hotel that was recommended no longer had the room available that was quoted and we did not want to spend extra to upgrade, so we were put in this hotel. This was not our agent's fault; the hotel should not have put any guests on that side of that building. Our agent was quick to address the situation and the next day we were moved to a nicer room in a different building.
Overall, it was a wonderful vacation. This was our second time booking through Zicasso and both trips were wonderful. Thank you.

The travel agents we worked with directly planned an amazing Vietnam and Cambodia trip for my husband and me. We were blown away by how amazing the tours were at each destination. They made sure food/dietary restrictions were met and were very responsive when we reached out while we were at our destination. They listened to what we wanted from our trip and delivered an amazing experience. This was our first experience with Zicasso and we would recommend them based on the amazing trip planned by the travel agents.

Zicasso's travel agent and his team were great and did a great job of adapting to some health issues that developed in Saigon. Communication pre-trip was excellent. The guides were generally very good, especially in Saigon and Siem Reap. The experiences planned gave us an excellent overview of the countries and their histories and cultures.
