Detailed Description

Costa Rica is well known for its beautiful beaches and mystical cloud forests, but Costa Rica’s cuisine has an unwarranted reputation. There is so much more than rice and beans in this country of rich biodiversity and organic farming, especially for visitors who scratch below the surface. This luxurious, one-week adventure will celebrate Costa Rica’s fine produce and gastronomy with private tours and personalized classes in the kitchen. You will travel to the cloud forest, where a spa awaits and you can gaze at volcanos. Then, you will end your tour on the Pacific coast, where the pristine beaches will be perfect for sipping on cocktails as the sun sets.

Culture and cuisine are often hard to separate in Costa Rica, and with food being the focus, you will also get to meet local people, explore the country’s history, and find a connection to what this part of Central America is all about. From walking around a cacao farm to Costa Rican wine tasting and ceviche preparation, this luxury vacation provides the pathway into a more authentic local experience. All the tours and classes will be private, so you will have plenty of time to converse with the locals and understand where their food originates. This three-destination tour will also showcase the country’s laid-back atmosphere with plenty of downtime to follow the culinary activities.

After flying to San Jose, you will be transferred to the Central Valley and a boutique lodge that is located on a coffee farm. The views will be stunning here, and you can unwind on the hillside before strolling through an organic garden to witness some of the treasures that will be in store for dinner. Culture and cuisine will weave together on day two, beginning with a tour of Barva and Heredia, which are two colonial towns that keep ancient traditions alive. From these old towns, you will travel to an organic cacao farm and follow the process from plantation to gourmet truffles on a private tour that encourages you to get your hands dirty and smother chocolate all around your mouth.

Day three will begin with an organic coffee plantation and some very interesting stories that concern coffee and Costa Rican culture. By touring the plantation step by step, you will learn the production process before a coffee cupping session helps you to discern and rate coffee from bean to cup. It will be an hour and a half transfer to Bajos del Toro in the afternoon, where your lodge will be located in a private cloud forest. There will be plenty of time to enjoy the on-site spa and take a walk in the forest before a gourmet dinner brings new flavors to your table.

Costa Rican cuisine is dominated by the concept of farm to table. This is a country that has always farmed and dined organically, and many Costa Rican farms have received international organic accreditation. By visiting a community market, you will get to know local produce and meet with some farmers. You will then pick some vegetables and herbs from a local garden, and all the produce that you picked will come together during an optional cooking class. You can join the chefs or wait for the food, and there will be a variety of dishes that are complemented by local and international wines.

You will culminate your vacation with a two-night stay on the Pacific coast, where you will have many hours to relax on golden sand and paddle in the shallow surf. Sunsets are spectacular on the Costa Rican Pacific, and they are even more enjoyable with a cocktail in hand. You can pick up some of your ingredients for cocktails from a Pacific garden before mixing them up with a local bartender. Your final day on vacation will be dedicated to the country’s coastal cuisine. Some of the secrets that you will you learn will be about picadillo and ceviche. From Punta Islita, you will depart from Liberia.

Costa Rica Tour Review: La Fortuna, Coffee and Chocolate Tour, 9 Nights

My husband and I had an amazing vacation in Costa Rica. It is a pure paradise. Beautiful sights, wonderful tours, great food, and so much to see and do.

Zicasso’s travel specialist and the team were great at planning our vacation. They took the time to listen to our needs and delivered a wonderful plan for us. They were there to help us with minor changes we had to make during our trip. They were attentive and helpful.

Costa Rica Travel Review: Catamaran Trip, Ziplining, National Park, 8 Nights

Everything was arranged thoughtfully, with time for "adventures" and downtime at terrific resorts to relax. All pick-ups, travel by limo, and drop-offs went as arranged. The drivers, guides, and hotel staff were all very pleasant and kind. Zicasso's tour operator did a great job planning our eight-day, family-of-10 trip to Costa Rica! We appreciated that most tours, hikes, and ocean experiences were small groups of just our group of 10. This made it a personal and annoyance-free experience all around. Thanks!

Costa Rica Tour Review: Monteverde, Arenal Volcano, Tamarindo, Cloud Forest, Wildlife, 12 Days

Zicasso’s travel company provided an excellent experience for our trip. Prior to the trip, they provided descriptions of what to bring and how to deal with every step of the trip, e.g., normal ranges for tips, packing lists for clothes, currency use, etc. The descriptions were very clear about how to meet our transportation and guides. Every step of our trip occurred on time, as scheduled. The guides they selected were experienced, with excellent English communication abilities.

Our guide in Monteverde was clearly the dean of the guide community. Other guides would ask him questions when we encountered them. He used his experience with bird sounds and other animal hints to allow us to watch two quetzals building a nest, taking turns with one quetzal on lookout while the other dug out a hole in a tree. We learned that it was very unusual to even see one quetzal at all, let alone two for an extended period. Our guide in the Arenal volcano area was also extremely knowledgeable about the plants and animals. We enjoyed getting to know them, as well as the driver who took us from Monteverde to Tamarindo.

The selection of guided tours and related events gave us a varied look at the many different things that Costa Rica has to offer in the northern part of the country. Working with the travel company on our itinerary gave us what we were looking for. It also allowed us to fly in and out of Liberia airport, which minimized our travel on the ground. During the course of our visit, we were in touch with a representative of the travel company on numerous occasions. He provided restaurant recommendations when we wanted to venture outside of the hotel. They were excellent. He also assisted in our determining proper tipping for particular legs of the trip.

The roads of Costa Rica can be challenging, especially at night, but our guides and drivers were very safe and skilled in dealing with the roads. The travel company used some of its people, but also engaged some who were independent. Their choices were very good and always on time. It was clear they are a well-run operation that knows how to support the traveler at every step of the vacation. Thank you for offering this travel company to us. It was our first experience with Zicasso. We were quite pleased and will definitely think of you for future trips.

Costa Rica Trip Review: La Fortuna, Manuel Antonio, San Jose, Ziplining, River Tour, Waterfall, Coffee and Chocolate Tour, Sunset Cruise, 10 Days

We had a wonderful time on our trip. Zicasso’s travel specialist was responsive to what we wanted to do and adjusted our trip to fit our budget. He included our interests and took the research out of it for us. We asked him to plan on a tight time crunch of less than a month and he made it with ease.

Costa Rica had so much to do and he kept us active, which we wanted. I appreciated how the travel company had a travel app for all of our itineraries and tickets, as well as an emergency contact to make adjustments during the trip. We used this several times to book things we discovered during the trip and it was a breeze.

Our favorite adventures from our trip were ziplining, the river tour, and the waterfall in La Fortuna. We also enjoyed animal tours, which says a lot, as I'm not an animal fan, but the adventure was wonderful and felt very safe. I would consider the Monte Verde night tour next time.

We enjoyed our resort in Manuel Antonio and the beach at Manuel Antonio. The view was incredible.

Our whole tour flowed seamlessly and Costa Rica was beautiful and full of adventures. We'd happily return and use the travel company.

The coffee and chocolate tour in Don Juan was wonderful. Additionally, all of our hotels were great. I'd highly recommend this experience.

Costa Rica Tour Review: Monteverde, Uvita, Arenal, Hanging Bridges, Rafting, Coffee and Cacao Plantation, Wildlife, 3-Week Trip

Every driver was on time and every hotel and event booking was as scheduled. We saw so many wonderful sites and enjoyed the excellent food and culture of Costa Rica. We will definitely return.

Zicasso’s travel company did a great job showcasing the highlights of Costa Rica on this three-week trip. They also did what no other company would do, and that is, accommodating the fact that we had a private residence to stay in between adventures!
