Portugal Vacation Review: Lisbon, Algarve, Porto, Douro Valley, Food Tour, Boat Ride, Wine Pairing, E-Bike Ride, 13 Nights

We recently returned from two fabulous weeks in Portugal. This was the first time we had used an agency to help plan, book, and manage a trip. We could not be more pleased and I highly doubt we will ever go back to handling all of that ourselves.

Zicasso’s travel specialist and his team (most notably our guide) were incredible. The travel specialist listened to our hopes for this trip (as well as what we like to do when traveling) and put together an awesome itinerary. Our main stops were Lisbon, the Algarve, Porto, and the Douro Valley.

Major highlights included four-hour walking and food tours in Lisbon and Porto (the first of which was the day we arrived from the United States. I didn’t think we could do it, but it was the best way to start our trip), the tile museum and tile workshop, a boat ride through the cave formations in the Algarve, a wonderful farm-to-table lunch and wine pairing under a 2,000-year-old olive tree in the Algarve, and an 18-mile e-bike ride in the mountains of the Douro (I definitely didn’t think we could do it).

The sites, the food, the hotels! We did so many things and had so many unforgettable experiences, but in the end, it was the kindness and generosity of all the people we met that will stay with us.

Portugal Travel Review: Lisbon, Porto, Local Cuisine, Architecture, Culture, 14 Nights

A close friend recommended Zicasso upon learning about our tentative plans to visit Portugal. He said he had used Zicasso on three trips and had just booked his fourth.

My wife and I, along with two close friends, began booking our trip to Portugal and were provided contact information for two separate tour companies in the country. While both companies seemed professional and experienced, we selected this tour company. Our travel agent, seemed more intuitive when it came to interpreting our preferences and expectations for the trip. He was very personable, professional, and knowledgeable. He was also able to incorporate some of the suggestions we had received from a close friend who had traveled to Portugal many times. Our travel agent was personable and enjoyable to talk to during our three phone conversations. He was very patient with our questions. We had a few concerns about the itinerary and he was never defensive; he made sure we knew it was our vacation and he would make changes as requested, yet he also asserted himself if he felt like we didn't understand the itinerary or were making a serious mistake. Our communication with the travel agent and his team was easy and effective using the Zicasso portal. It also allowed us to communicate clearly in spite of the time difference.

Once we arrived in Portugal, we learned just how effective our travel agent and his team were and how well they understood our preferences. We spent 15 days touring Portugal, from Lisbon to Porto. We stayed in five hotels in different areas of the country. Each of them had their own personality and charm, and were close to our many activities or to accessing them easily by car. Our many guides and drivers were all skilled and professional. And with some, we became friends.

The few problems we encountered were minor and to be expected in international travel. Some potential problems were resolved by the tour company staff before they became more serious. It was a wonderful experience all around.

Portugal Tour Review: Douro Valley, Lisbon, Porto, Evora, Algarve, Braga, Guimaraes, Pena Palace, Pastry Experience, Food Market, Tile Workshop, Winemaking, 12-Day Trip

My husband and I traveled with our two adult children for 12 days through Portugal. Our trip was absolutely amazing, with every transfer, lodging, and tour detail seemingly tailored especially for us. Zicasso's travel expert was so wonderful to talk with as he planned our trip; he asked great questions to understand what kind of travelers we are and our interests. Our itinerary was perfect as we reviewed it prior to our trip, but as we experienced every transfer guide, tour specialist, and lodging, we could not have asked for a better experience. "Mahalo nui" (thank you so much) for helping us to experience your beautiful country and your even more beautiful and kind people. We can't wait for our trip back.

I wanted to make a special note of recognition about our transfer drivers/guides: they were absolutely amazing; so experienced and warm. We all enjoyed learning from them about Portugal and just felt so very well taken care of as they seamlessly transported us through your beautiful country and made sure we knew where to go and where to meet later. One of our drivers walked us through a local pastry shop to see the pastries being made; without him, we would have surely missed that experience. In Douro, another driver recommended a "locals" restaurant down the hill from our hotel. The owner was so kind he arranged for our server to drive us up the steep and winding hill to our hotel! These "special" experiences so reminded us of our beautiful Hawai'i and the spirit of "aloha" we felt so strongly in Portugal! At our departure, another driver walked us with our luggage into the airport departure terminal and showed us where to go (it was so much larger than any terminal we had been in). We would surely have been lost without his expert guidance.

Your tour guide selections were all simply amazing. We felt each guide's love ("aloha" for us) and attachment to each place we visited. We cannot thank you enough for all your work in planning so that we could truly enjoy and now have lasting memories until we return again.

With much "aloha" and gratitude, our "'ohana."

The agents did a fabulous job of customizing our trip and continuously following up along the way to make sure everything went as planned. I would recommend Zicasso's tour operator to anyone planning a trip to Portugal.

Portugal Vacation Review: Douro Valley, 10-Day Trip

Our trip was amazing. From the time we first connected with Zicasso's travel expert to discuss our options, through the process of selecting the itinerary and then the trip itself, everything was executed perfectly. Portugal is beautiful, and the people, scenery, and food make it a special place.

Portugal Travel Review: Porto, 12 Nights

I was happy with the overall trip and experience. We had a great time and my itinerary was covered in the exact way I wanted. When I had questions about the day-to-day or there were issues, my contact method worked well; I received quick answers and responses.

The trip was well planned and thought out. This is how to book a trip based on your own wishes and have it tailored to cater to what you want to experience. It was very professional dealing with Zicasso to make our dream trip come true!
