Rome – Be Welcomed to the Eternal City with a Tour of Ancient Rome
Rome is a city that offers endless possibilities for discovery, whether in art, architecture, charm or within oneself. History and the splendors of former master artists are within reach around every corner. The hills around the city garner the aromas of chestnut and oak trees and the streets feel magical. You are taken back in time along cobblestone lanes that lead to lavish villas built to showcase the power of wealthy noble families. Your flight will land at Fiumicino Airport where your private transfer will meet you at baggage claim.
Once settled in the comforts of Parco Delle Nazioni, your guide will greet you in the lobby ready to escort you through the captivating monuments of Ancient Rome. You begin at the Imperial Forums, an area mostly built over during the reign of Mussolini in the 1930s. Excavations have since unearthed elements of Trajan’s Market, beneath the lingering outline of Trajan’s Column. The 2nd century AD monument contains intricate reliefs depicting Rome’s victories over the Dacians. A portion of the Temple of Minerva still stands near what was once the Foro di Nerva.
You will make your way along the Via dei Fori Imperiali for a view of the Colosseum which grows larger as you venture closer as the aroma of rich earth emanates from the ruins strewn along the edges of the roadway. The exterior walls of the Colosseum reach a height of more than 155 feet tall, and once featured large masts to help shade the upwards of 50,000 patrons that would fill the stadium seating. The Colosseum, along with the remaining columns of the Roman Forum, has become an icon of Rome, both past and present.

Detailed Description
Rome bustles with the activity of a capital city while the Le Marche region maintains a relaxed and steady pace between the bordering mountain peaks, vast meadows, and bright Adriatic coast. In discovering them both, you can experience the finest in Italy’s history and landscape during your 8-day tour best visited in spring. The culture of hilltop towns remains undisturbed as the pleasures of cuisine remain attached to local tradition. Whether you wander through the lavish villas of noble families in Rome or stroll along the quiet cobbled lanes that lead to a provincial Cathedral, you will connect to the precious gems of Italy’s heritage, evolving from pre-Roman tribes to medieval majesty.
Your journey will begin with your arrival at Rome Fiumicino Airport. Your private transfer will escort you into the historical center where you will have an introductory tour of the ancient life and ruins of Rome. Witness the stones, pillars, and remaining ancient villas that once shaped an empire. The next day, you will venture to Piazza Navona for a private art class amidst the Baroque architecture and fountains in the public square. Follow your art class with a view of the work of masters inside the Vatican Museum.
Wake the next day for a private tour of the different neighborhoods of Rome, traversing quiet residential streets and traditional local markets. Meet a local chef who will teach you how to make proper pasta and another traditional Roman dish before you wander the artwork of the Villa Borghese. The next day is at your leisure to uncover the treasures of Rome as you desire, so you could follow the Baroque trail of stunning palaces and churches or venture to the preserved ancient city of Ostia Antica outside of Rome. You could also visit the lavish historic villas of Tivoli.
The next day, your private transfer will lead you away from Rome to travel eastward to the region of Le Marche. The hills of Lazio level to the fields of Le Marche, and in the distance, the peaks of Monti Sibillini connect to the Umbrian region. Visit the towns of Ascoli Piceno and Ancona en route to the seaside town of Pesaro. Continue the next day with a full day tour that begins with a truffle hunt, followed by a wine tasting.
For lunch, you will step into the kitchen to prepare regional dishes that highlight the local wine and truffles. Continue to Urbino to walk around the treasured Renaissance town that overlooks the plains of Le Marche. The next day, you will continue your exploration of the region as you traverse both towns and landscape at your preferred pace. See the remaining medieval tower at Cagli and enjoy the wild daffodils along the meadow beneath Monte Petrano, or you could also visit the Frasassi Caves. Conclude the next day as your private transfer will escort you north to Rimini for your flight home.

Zicasso's travel specialist organized an amazing 12-day series of private tours, taking us from Milan to the lake regions (Como, Maggiore, and Garda) and down to Bologna. Our days were filled with visiting churches, museums (including the Ferrari and Enzo Ferrari museums), a winery, parmigiano, prosciutto, and traditional balsamic manufacturing, a cooking class, boat tours, and food tours.
Along the way, we saw testing at the Ferrari track and a small portion of the women’s Giro d’Italia. With all that, we still had sufficient downtime to search the streets to find our own gems.
Our trip coordinator checked in with us daily to confirm the daily itinerary and transportation. When we had questions or needed to make a change due to the weather, she was thorough, attentive, and responsive in a way that was reassuring and comforting. She was simply amazing.
I would highly recommend using this travel specialist and team for any of your Italian travel needs.

It was well organized and met my needs completely. The guides and drivers (except for the one to the airport on 6/23) were great. I was particularly surprised and pleased by the art tour on 6/22.

We've taken many family vacations over the years, but we all agreed this was the best one yet!
The team at Zicasso’s travel company did an exceptional job tailoring the perfect trip for our family. Every detail was thoughtfully planned, making the entire experience seamless and truly enjoyable from start to finish.
We had wonderful drives and knowledgeable, engaging tour guides who made each destination come to life. Some of our favorite highlights include a hands-on cooking class in Florence, exploring the beautiful Tuscan countryside, and having effortless access to iconic sites like the Vatican and the Colosseum.
The experiences were unforgettable, from the best food tour in Rome to a fun and unique golf-cart tour through the city. We also loved visiting a Parmigiano-Reggiano factory and a Parma ham producer, along with an extra-special stop at the Ferrari Museum that was such a memorable surprise.
Every moment felt thoughtfully curated and we came home with incredible memories that we will cherish for years to come. We highly recommend the travel company to anyone looking for a truly personalized and exceptional travel experience.

This was a fantastic experience for my family. The places and activities that Zicasso's travel company picked were perfect. All the guides selected for various tours were extremely knowledgeable and responsive. The cooking class was an exceptional experience. When we had some difficulties on the last day when my grandson was sick, they were incredibly helpful. There were a few minor things I would have adjusted in hindsight, but overall it was a five-star experience.

The trip was awesome. The accommodations were very nice. We just did not realize how much walking we would do, but we managed. There were a few hiccups, but nothing major.
Our transport from the airport to the hotel in Venice went smoothly. We definitely appreciated the private transfer after seeing the crowd on the public transportation. My sister was a little disappointed that the gondolier did not sing to us in Italian, but she thought the ride was very relaxing. The tour guide for St. Mark's was very knowledgeable and informative. Venice was a lovely and unique city. We were surprised by the narrow walkways/streets and canals; but came to appreciate them. It gave Venice its charm. The transport from the hotel to the train station was right on time and the guy at the train station was great. He explained exactly what we needed to do to catch the train to our next destinations. We really appreciated his help.
The transport from the train station to the car rental agency was okay. The driver spoke little English and the A/C did not work in the vehicle. The driver did try everything to work the A/C and did apologize that it was not working. The driver dropped us off at the wrong spot at the rental car place. He dropped us off where you turn in the cars. We had to walk to where you rent the cars with our luggage. The car-rental line was extremely long and somewhat confusing. There were no instructions to take a number. We only knew because a nice couple informed us to do so. And there were so many other car-rental places with no lines.
We explored Cinque Terre, Pisa, and Florence during our time in Impruneta. We really enjoyed the cooking class and winery tour you scheduled for us; our guide was a great teacher. Driving in Florence was a little confusing with the ZTLs, but I think we did okay. Little did we know how much we would appreciate the ZTLs while walking around in Florence. We walked and shopped in Florence. We even did a tour at the Accademia Gallery to see the statue of David.
Returning the vehicle was way easier than renting it and our next transport picked us up right where we were dropped off. We felt very comfortable navigating the train station for our train ride to Rome, thanks to the train station lesson we received from the guy in Venice. The train rides went very smoothly. The transport from the station in Rome to our hotel went very well. He literally dropped us off right in front of the hotel.
Rome was different. It had the narrow, quaint streets between buildings which made Rome very walkable. However, we did not expect cars/motorcycles to be driving down these narrow streets as well. It made for interesting walks. We really enjoyed our tours with our guide. She was very knowledgeable and informative. She also allowed us to go at our own pace. Needless to say, our pace became slower than usual from all the walking we already did in Venice and Florence. Our feet were starting to hurt, even though we wore comfortable shoes the whole time. We also enjoyed the Vatican Necropolis. I was extremely humbled that I was able to kneel and pray before the actual remains of St. Peter. I am very grateful we were allowed to get into that tour. Although Rome was different, it was very historical and a lot to take in. There was just so much history everywhere you turned. Rome was really inspiring.
Our transport from the hotel back to the airport was on time and went very well. The driver spoke very good English and gave us some additional interesting facts while on our way to the airport. We were ready to go home, but also sad to be leaving.
Thank you for putting the details of the trip together. The trip would not have been as great as it was without you.

We could not be more pleased with the itinerary Zicasso’s travel specialist organized on our behalf. We were visiting Rome with our daughter, son-in-law, and 11-year-old twin granddaughters. From our pick-up at the airport to our final drop-off heading home, everything ran like clockwork.
The tours of the Colosseum and the Vatican, our cooking class, and fresco art painting experience were all well-suited to every member of the family. The guides and hostesses were all lovely, very knowledgeable, and made every experience memorable, especially for our grandchildren. We would not hesitate to recommend the travel specialist to anyone looking for a truly authentic Roman adventure.
