Venice – Arrive in Venice to Enjoy an Introductory Tour of the Waterways

Venice is a city of mystery and majesty, enchanting narrow passageways and opulent landmarks. Steps ascend out of the waters and lead to quiet cafes. Gondolas and vaporettos cruise along the network of canals. Your private transfer will meet you at Marco Polo Airport and escort you to the edge of the famous Grand Canal where you will board a private boat to your hotel. The boat will deliver you to a private dock that leads into the lobby of your accommodation. The lobby embodies the grandeur of your experience in Venice and around Veneto through the lavish décor and marvelous history on display.

Enjoy a moment to settle into your room before you meet your guide once again on the hotel’s dock for an introductory exploration of Venice through the Grand Canal. The charming details of the city open up to you as an old woman leans out her window in a former palace to watch the boats pass below. Workmen replaced the rotted wood moorings with new trunks as churches have entrances that loom over the water as private docks contain marble stairways that descend beneath the splashing canal. The Palazzo Corner della Ca’Grande was erected in the 16th-century by an Italian mater-builder and the structure was built with the intention of impressing other noble families of Venice through Ionic and Corinthian columns adorning the first and second stories. As you float through, you will find that his job was well-done.

Detailed Description

From the foothills of the Dolomites to the shores of the Venetian Lagoon, the wonder of the Veneto region emanates from the natural landscape and culture unique to the influence of the Venetian Republic. Canals meander through the cityscape, and the churches and palaces are nearly indistinguishable in grandeur. Villages exhibit as many captivating historical frescoes as the palaces of the Venetian capital. Your 10-day tour will encompass the majesty of an entire region, while you relax in the lavish surroundings of Venice.

Your Veneto excursion will begin with your arrival at Marco Polo Airport. Your private transfer will escort you to the edge of the Grand Canal where you will board a vaporetto to your hotel. Your guide will meet you in the lobby after you have had a chance to settle in and lead you on an exploration of Venice through the waterways that connect the architecture, culture, and cafes of the city. Next day, you will have an elaborate walking tour of Venice that begins with St. Mark’s Square. Your guide will take you through the Basilica and Doge’s Palace to highlight the exuberant décor and historical chambers.  Continue to make a deeper connection with Venice as you move through an island tour of the Lagoon and visit a collection of celebrated communities including Burano and Murano. Look forward to observing a glassblowing workshop on Murano for an introduction to the historical artwork.

Move next to spend the following day on a guided tour through the history of the diverse neighborhoods of Venice. Your day will conclude with a visit to an artisan gondola maker’s workshop to see the process of crafting the distinctive boats. Venture next to the enchanting town of Chioggia to relax in the serene atmosphere of “Little Venice.” Wander the cobbled streets or relax on the sandy shores of the nearby beaches before you return to your hotel in the evening. Next, venture into the foothills of the Dolomite Mountains to delight in the culture of the rural villages, including the charming meandering streets of Asolo. Bask in the flavors of a coursed lunch paired with local wine.

Move on to enjoy the legendary poetic landscape and celebrated poetry of Petrarca in the town of Arqua Petrarca. Relax in the soothing waters of the thermal spa before you wander through the bustling and captivating historical city center of Udine. Cross the stone bridge to the heart of the cliff-side town of Friuli, the latter of which contains a burial ground that predates Roman settlement before the next day takes you into the embrace of Romeo and Juliet as you explore the gorgeous city of Verona.

Wander the distinct neighborhoods, visit Juliet’s balcony, and witness the drama of the Roman amphitheater before you venture next to Bassano del Grappa. Once in town, you can relish the serene setting and delight in a private cooking class paired with a tasting of local grappa. Conclude the next day as your private transfer meets you ready to escort you to the Venice airport for your flight home, or you could extend your stay in Italy with an in-depth visit to Tuscany or Lazio.

Italy Trip Review: Milan, Florence, Lake Como, Venice, 11 Nights

When we started planning our trip to Italy, I knew I wanted to work with a travel agent—specifically, someone who specialized in Italy and was based there. After reaching out to several agencies and reviewing their responses, we chose Zicasso and, more specifically, our travel agent. She is based in Milan and from my very first interaction with her, I knew we had made the right choice.

Our trip could not have been more perfect. Our agent put a lot of thought into every location and planned activity. At the outset, we had a few discussions with her about what we wanted from the trip and, after that, we were happy to leave most of the details in her capable hands. Our goal was to explore mid-to-northern Italy and everything—from the hotels and tours to the free time and transportation—was beautifully organized.

Our 11-night trip started in Milan and ended in Florence, with overnight stays in Milan (one night), Lake Como (three nights), Venice (three nights), and Florence (four nights). Initially, I was hesitant about staying at Lake Como for three nights, but our agent encouraged me to do a little research. I’m so glad she did, as it turned out to be incredible. We had more self-guided time at Lake Como, which was perfect as we adjusted to the time change. In Venice, our itinerary became more structured, but we still had plenty of time for our own explorations. By the time we reached Florence, we had activities and tours planned for every day, which was just what we wanted.

A highlight for my family was a full-day trip into Tuscany, where we visited San Gimignano, an organic vineyard in Chianti, and finished with a tour of Siena. Our day trip to Rome allowed us to see the main attractions and we concluded the journey with a tour of Florence and the Accademia Gallery. Every tour our agent arranged was spot on.

Throughout our trip, she was wonderfully communicative—always available when we had questions, but never intrusive. She even helped us with a couple of last-minute requests: booking a hotel in Milan for one night and arranging train tickets to Verona for an impromptu visit to Juliet’s balcony. Whenever we needed something, she was there.

When we return to explore the mid-to-southern part of Italy, there’s no question that we’ll be asking her to plan our trip again. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a seamless, thoughtfully curated Italian adventure.

Italy Family Vacation Review: Venice, Verona, Florence, Tuscany, Siena, Rome, Biking, Cooking, Wine Tasting, Olive Oil Experience, 10 Nights

Zicasso's travel company planned the most amazing trip to Venice, Verona, Florence, Tuscany, Siena, and Rome for our family of five. It was the best trip I've ever taken, and having all the details covered by them and plans and tickets sent to us via WhatsApp allowed us to really live in the moment and not have to think about what was next. I loved every second. I cannot wait to plan another trip to Italy to experience the southern half of the country.

Italy Tour Review: Rome, Venice, Tuscany, Chianti, Vespa Tour, Boat Ride, Cooking Class, 20 Days

Our trip was absolutely amazing and the planning done by Zicasso's travel company surpassed my expectations. The attention to detail was amazing: from excellent and punctual drivers to assistants who helped us with the water taxis in Venice to the lounge access for trains. It was truly white-glove service that made my trip seamless and allowed me to enjoy every moment because every detail was handled.

The excursions were fantastic. I especially enjoyed the cooking class at a farm in Tuscany and the Vespa tours in Rome. There was a nice mix of private excursions for the walking tours and boat rides, to a few shared excursions, such as the cooking class.

The hotels the travel company booked were chic, boutiquey Italian hotels and each had its own charm (from the former palace in Venice to the castle in Chianti), and we loved them. We would absolutely recommend to anyone booking a trip to Italy!

Italy Vacation Review: Vatican, Colosseum, Venice, Cooking Class, Wine Tasting, Olive Oil, 11 Nights

Zicasso’s travel specialist made this our best trip ever. She was communicative and accommodating, as well as always available for our questions. Every tour and every guide was exceptional. Their ability to communicate their enthusiasm and passion was jaw-dropping. We came back each day with our mouths dropped by the amount of information and the fun we had. Each hotel the travel specialist picked for us was great, offering the best locations and caring, accommodating staff. She was a lovely and genuine person.

One of the highlights was our cooking class with a chef. This does not diminish each tour guide; they were perfect. Also, she arranged private transport that made our trip a breeze from beginning to end. Especially cool was the taxi in Venice! Thank you, to our travel specialist and Zicasso, for an amazing vacation. Oh, the wine and olive oil were perfection. Highly recommend!

Italy Travel Review: Agrigento, Trapani, Favignana, Siracusa, Terrasini, Boat Ride, Street Food Tour, 2 Weeks

I really liked the hotels and the Airbnb we were booked in. The breakfasts were lovely, and the staff was even lovelier. Also, I appreciated that we started our trip in a smaller place before we tackled the bigger cities. The excursions were nicely spaced out and we really enjoyed our start-of-the-season boat cruise, as well as the final market tour.

Our drivers were either early or on time, and our “long-haul” driver for two of our trips was great. He and my husband really hit it off.

I really appreciated that staff members were available when we needed them (even on the weekends and even when we were the ones who showed up in the wrong spot).
