Detailed Description

The art world has many disciplines and schools to span history, countries, and even the changing Republics of Italy. Your 8-day tour of Rome and Lecce takes you through an intimate journey of the Baroque period, a time when artists accentuated the values of the Renaissance and continued to take inspiration from the classics. Your artistic adventure will begin with your arrival at Rome Fiumicino Airport as your private transfer will escort you to the heart of the historical city. Take your time to settle in at your luxurious hotel before you meet your guide for an introductory tour of the city. The Baroque period will take on beautiful shapes in the form of fountains and churches, including the historical church known as Il Gesu.

The next day will take you deeper into the Baroque art of Rome with a visit to the formerly private art collection of Cardinal Scipione while on exhibit inside the opulent galleries of the Villa Borghese. In the evening, you will dine like a Baroque master with an intimate and detailed meal at a celebrated restaurant. Your guide will lead you on an encompassing tour of Ancient Rome the following day for a view of the classics that inspired many Baroque artists. At the Capitoline Museums, you can view the Classical and the Baroque side-by-side. Continue the next day as you uncover the remarkable Baroque works of Rome on a walking tour of the churches of the Eternal City.

Find the lingering works of Bernini on Ponte Sant’Angelo, and then marvel at the works of Pozzo inside the Church of San Ignazio. Visit the Vatican Museums to explore the magnificent collection of artworks that span more than 1,500 years. Make your way to the airport the following day for your flight from Rome to Lecce, located in the region of Puglia on the Adriatic Sea. Your private transfer will meet you at baggage claim and escort you into the historical center of the bustling antique city. Stroll through the charming streets at your leisure before your join into a private papier-mâché class to learn the preferred artistic medium of the region since the 16th century.

The next day, you will enjoy a half-day tour of the Baroque art and architecture that decorates Lecce, from the church facades to the preserved ceilinged frescoes. In the late afternoon, you will meet a private instructor ready to introduce you to the flavors of Puglia during your private cooking class. Travel north the following day to visit the elegant whitewashed town of Martina Franca and enjoy the Baroque architecture bordered by the pristinely painted homes before you discover the charming old town of Brindisi. Conclude as your private transfer will meet you in the hotel lobby and escort you to Salento Airport in Brindisi for your flight home.
