Detailed Description

Iceland is a land of wonder, where fantastical landscapes are the reality. Your 7-day tour of the island encompasses national parks and cultural identity, heritage parks and the discovery of waterfalls and volcanic craters. Your tour begins with your arrival in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland. Your private transfer meets you at Keflavik International Airport and escorts you to your hotel located in the city center. The remainder of the day is yours to enjoy the welcoming atmosphere and vibrancy of the city.

The next day, you will fly south to the village of Höfn. Venture from the airport to a farmstead near the base of Vatnajökull, the largest glacier in Iceland and Europe. Your guide will lead you on a snowmobile excursion across the snowy expanse. In the evening, settle into a luxurious farmhouse near Höfn. Next day, start your travel along the Ring Road, encircling the outskirts of the island. Traverse the waters of Jökulsárión Glacial Lagoon on a zodiac boat, then trek through the trails of Skaftafell National Park to see the basalt formations at Svartifoss.

Walk along the rim of Fjaðrárgljúfur gorge before your arrival in the town of Vik, the southern most town on Iceland’s mainland. See the dazzling Reynisfjall Sea Cliffs as they frame the black sand beach near town. Visit a nearby sea cave before enjoying the remarkable promontory of Dyrhólaey, where an iconic rock archway reaches out from the cliff. Take in the simple pleasures in the village of Skogar and stroll through the exhibits at the Folk Museum, along with view the thundering water of Skogafoss Waterfall.

Continue to the Thjorsardalur Valley, home to Hekla Volcano. Visit Hekla Center and Haifoss Falls to learn about the heritage of Iceland at Þjóðveldisbærinn, a re-creation of a Viking settlement based on the ruins of Stöng. Venture through the spouting geysers in the active thermal valley before flying to Heimaey on the Westman Islands. Meander through and see the golf course located on the inside of a volcanic crater. Visit the volcano museum and cruise to the southern edge of the island to find puffins nesting on the coastline. Enjoy your last morning at your leisure before you fly to Keflavik International Airport for your connecting flight home.
