Athens – Arrive in the Enchanting Historical Center of Athens, Greece
Athens is a city of philosophy and ancient wisdom with a modern edge. Lively cafes line streets that are paved with marble while the white stones featured on the facades of historic structures shine in the light of the Mediterranean. The fabled Parthenon crowns the Acropolis, viewable from around the city below. Your private transfer will greet you upon your arrival and drive you into the city. The savory aroma of olives drifts from the groves that grow around the edges of Greece’s largest city while the bittersweet scent of Greek coffee drifts from the open doors of the small cafes.
To settle into the charms of the city and Greek life, you will first make your way to Kolonaki, a neighborhood in the center of the city along the southern slopes of Lycabettus Hill. Shop windows offer quiet delights in the form of elaborate displays of bags, clothing, and shoes while the jewelry glistens in the fading sunlight on Voukourestiou Street. The scent of tangy feta and xynotyro fill the cheese plate accompanying the aromas of plum and sour cherry emanating from your wine glass as you toast to one another and the weeks ahead.

Excellent! Everything was meticulously planned. All of our tours were very interesting and the drivers were courteous. We went to Athens, Naxos, and Santorini during our 11-day trip. Overall, I think our favorite place was Naxos, with Athens and the Acropolis being second, although the weather that morning was not the best. But our guide was excellent and kept us engaged while fighting rain and wind. As I mentioned, all the drivers and guides were excellent and I would highly recommend this trip. Santorini was beautiful too and the wine tour was extremely interesting. We highly recommend Zicasso.

We had a wonderful and memorable trip to Greece, thanks to the Zicasso travel specialist’s excellent planning. In addition to exploring Athens, she designed a seamless road trip across the Peloponnese Peninsula that took us to beautiful beaches and ancient castles in Messinia, Voidokilia, Pylos, Methoni, Monemvasia, and Nafplio. She also provided clear directions and recommended great stops to break up our drives, including Mystras Castle and the beautiful Polylimnio Waterfalls.
Our hotel accommodations were excellent throughout the trip and we really enjoyed our stay in beautiful Santorini. We also appreciated her restaurant recommendations, which saved us from having to search for places to eat and always led us to great food. She stayed in touch via WhatsApp the entire time, checking in on us and answering our questions whenever they came up. There is so much to see in Greece that we’ll definitely need to go back for another visit.

We had a very good trip to Greece with Zicasso's travel specialist. We traveled to Athens, Mykonos, and Santorini with a group of six (three couples). They did a good job of finding nice and convenient hotels in each location, and we were also pleased with the Acropolis tour, food tours, and catamaran trip we took during the week.

Our travel specialist was an exceptional travel planner. I have planned many trips and my experience with her was at the top. I actually investigated working with Zicasso because I was interested in leveraging the planning of my trip as a cultural exchange with someone in-country who could provide their personal perspectives and insider tips. She delivered!
Our travel specialist had dinner with us the first night and gave us all sorts of insights on Athens and her recommendations. She also gave us her cell number and was available 24/7 for any needs we had throughout the trip. I have never had service like this. She was truly incredible and helped us navigate last-minute changes or additions flawlessly and with no stress.
She found small, family-owned hotels with lots of character for us to stay in. She organized a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Santorini to participate in all of the many festivities surrounding Greek Orthodox Easter; so many traditions and so very different than our American Easter. It was authentic, joyful, and an incredible cultural exchange in that we were welcomed wholeheartedly by the people of Santorini.
The guides she provided were locals who had deep knowledge and high academic credentials, so traveling with them was like going back to school and learning in the most amazing fully immersive manner.
Our guide in Santorini mentioned we must not miss Akrotiri on Santorini, so we made time to fit in this unexpected tour; turns out it blew our mind: an ancient Minoan city... and some say it may have been the lost city of Atlantis. The story of the town and its demise is stunning. Then, a visit to Knossos in Heraklion, Crete, with our PhD guide, a cultural anthropologist and archaeologist. She was able to share the historical perspective on the Minoan Palace of Knossos, but also the contemporary study of the subject and how the work of "pre-history" civilizations is done with limited Minoan language and documentation.
Our travel specialist planned a flawless trip of a lifetime for us, but we also made a friend in Athens. We are so very grateful.

First, Zicasso’s travel specialist was so very helpful. From the beginning stages of planning and understanding our needs for six adults, from transfers to private tours, hotel stays, etc., she was always easy to reach and effectively communicated with me on any issues or questions I had. I will definitely use this travel company again.
A couple of things I'd like to share. The gondola ride in Venice was great. However, boarding near the large body of water didn't feel very intimate. Lots of people. I do understand that's because our tour ended there, near St. Mark's, which, by the way, was fantastic. Our guide was so knowledgeable and informative. Maybe if there was a place to get on that's on a smaller canal. Venice was great fun.
Although our hotel in Athens was nice and convenient, the area was not only very busy and very loud at night, it seemed sketchy/dirty. Maybe that's not the appropriate term, as I had never been to Athens before. I learned quickly that the graffiti was considered art and nobody seemed overly bothered by it. I guess in the US, most of our large cities, where there is low-income housing, have lots of graffiti. We also get arrested for vandalizing other people's property. I think if we were in another area, it wouldn't have been so bad. Again, not knowing Athens, perhaps that's all normal. I know it's a big city.
Our guide was very, very slow in terms of her ability to "walk and talk." She walked so slow, it was hard for all of us to slow down that much. She too was very informative. The Acropolis was packed, even at 9am, so great idea having us get picked up at 8am!!
Our transfer to and from Lavrio Port: the driver who dropped us off was taking us to the port. I did not have clear information that we needed to be around the corner at Olympic Marina, where the smaller catamarans take off. I was able to contact family that was already there to tell us where to go. On the transfer pick-up, the driver was late and again did not know to go to the marina area. He went to the port, where the large boats and ships are located. No biggie, but for future reference, the smaller boats and tours are at the marina.
I think our favorite was the Dolomites! We all love the outdoors, the cool air, the mountains. But the week-long guided tour through the Greek islands was absolutely spectacular. The water was incredibly crystal clear and the most gorgeous blue I'd ever seen. We will be back to Greece in the future to explore more.
Thanks again for all your hard work, efforts, and being easy to reach.

Zicasso's travel company made our bucket-list trip to Greece come to life! They organised all our tours and transportation, worked with us to provide activities that were in line with our interests, and even gave detailed information on suggested itineraries for our free days.
Some highlights included the walking tour(s) of Athens, our trip to see Santorini, and the best steak I have ever had at a beach hotel in Naxos! Our only suggestion is that we went on a day tour to Delos which was self-guided. There is so much history there though that a guided tour would have been helpful. I would definitely recommend booking your tour with them!
