Day 1
Havana – The Heart of Havana
The plane descends into Jose Marti International Airport in Havana. Tall lush grass carpets the countryside leading to the runway. Palm trees sway in the tropical breeze blowing across the landscape. Your private transfer awaits your arrival at the baggage claim eager to introduce you to the world famous city of Havana. Outside of the airport, you discover the aroma of fresh coconut. Classic cars cruise down the avenue leading to Old Town Havana. Local men stand on the thick wall of the Malecón, the seaside boulevard. They hold fishing rods, casting their lines into the pristine water below. Occasionally the Caribbean Sea breaks against the rugged coastline edging the sea wall and splashes onto the walkway.
The city has an embracing quality, intriguing in its mixture of refurbished Spanish colonial architecture and crumbling historic facades. Locals offer friendly smiles as you pass by. At the corner of Plaza Vieja stands the nearly 115-foot tall tower of the Camera Obscura. The dark room uses the standard characters created by Leonardo d Vinci in the 15th century when he introduced the idea. The convex lens provides a spectacular view of the Old Town, from the rooftops of the old buildings to the structures across the bay rising up the hillside near the 16th-century Castillo de los Tres Reyes del Morro.

This trip was well worth every penny. Zicasso's tour operator was amazing and paid attention to every last detail. Our drivers and guide were so good. They knew exactly what we needed and wanted, and made sure the trip was perfect every single day. I know this sounds like I am gushing and that it couldn't have been this good, but it truly was!

Our Zicasso travel expert did a great job making all of our arrangements and making changes as needed while we were in Cuba. Our local guide and driver were excellent. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable, very patient, and so gracious. Our driver took good care of us too. The guest house in Havana was amazing. The guest house in Trinidad was mediocre. The guest house in Varadero was in a great location and just fine. We loved the itinerary. The activities were diverse, interesting, and fun. We could not believe the VIP treatment we received everywhere we went – the dance school, the cabaret venue, restaurants, etc.

What a wonderful trip! Zicasso's travel agent and her team were outstanding. The trip was well planned to visit the popular Cuban cities and towns, and included a personal trip to where my son's father was born. All the tours were great. Thank you to our guide and drivers! The accommodations, restaurants, and entertainment were terrific.

Cuba is a fascinating country. Zicasso's travel agent was honest and “real” from beginning to end. Having both an amazing tour guide and driver truly made the trip even better. We had a few hiccups that the tour guide, along with our agent, took care of immediately.
