Hanoi – First Impressions of Vietnam
Hanoi is an intoxicating city, and it is quick to pull you into its rhythm. Food sizzles on small street barbecues alongside the faded grandeur of a colonial townhouse. Arrive in Vietnam and head out with a guide to wrap your senses around all of the new impressions. With 24 hours in the city, you can take it slowly in the Old Quarter, allowing some of the sounds and smells to sink in. You will be greeted at the airport and have a hotel within the Old Quarter, and your guide will then tailor a walking route based on your energy levels.

You will feel excitement as you uncover the mysteries, such as at the temples of Angkor, and then warmth and enthusiasm when you spend time with local people. A sense of wonder will come every day on this signature tour to the region as you visit three countries in two weeks, hopping between a superb diversity of destinations and experiences. When you depart, you will feel privileged to have witnessed so much in such a relatively short amount of time.
Southeast Asia offers so many experiences and became so popular two or three decades ago. Back then, it took months to get around the region, but this has changed dramatically as domestic and international flights have made travel quick and straightforward. So in just two weeks, you can connect the complete variety of experiences and take in the best of Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand. By minimizing travel time, you will stay energized and get to see so much more. With passionate local guides leading the way, you will uncover more than just the famous stories.
Spend one week in Vietnam, three nights in Cambodia, then four nights in Thailand as the route is designed around flight connections. Spend 24 hours in Hanoi before a seaplane flight to Halong Bay where a landscape of karst makes for a relaxed two days of cruising. Fly onwards to Hoi An, Vietnam’s most intact and enchanting old city. After that cauldron of history, you travel to Ho Chi Minh City, where the old and new of Saigon creates many experiences in just two days.
Your Cambodian experience is spent in Siem Reap, just a few steps from the temples of Angkor. With three days, you can hop in and out of the vast archaeological complex, visiting famous Angkor Wat and the jungle-shrouded temples popularized in Tomb Raider, but also other less-known treasures. You can visit smaller, unknown temples and floating villages for a deeper understanding of what Cambodia is all about. From there, move next to Thailand with a flight to Chiang Mai, where intimate local experiences are found in the country’s cultural capital. And then end in Bangkok, cruising the Chao Phraya River and getting involved with some bustling city experiences.

We traveled to Vietnam and Cambodia from May 8 to 22, 2025. This was my fifth trip through Zicasso. As expected, the itinerary was excellent and exactly what we were looking for. I did double my budget from what I initially sent to Zicasso.
All of the lodging selections were outstanding. Along with the tours of the Ho Chi Minh complex, Hue Imperial City, the Angkor Wat complex, and numerous other temples and pagodas, we experienced a cable car ride to a mountain summit, a walk through an ethnic village, a water puppet show, a Cambodian circus, a Vietnamese cooking class, an evening lantern boat ride in Hoi An, and dinner in one of the top 50 restaurants in Asia. The water puppets are an ancient Vietnamese art (11th century) and the show was extraordinary.

Our Zicasso travel agent did a wonderful job taking our requests and styling a complex, detailed itinerary. Everything worked perfectly. The guides all communicated with each other and the drivers were always at the expected locations. All accommodations were awesome and well-located.
Beginning in Chiang Mai, Thailand, we visited Doi Inthanon National Park, the Doi Suthep mountain temple, and had an absolutely awesome time visiting with elephants at the elephant sanctuary, among other things. We even got to play with a two-week-old elephant. All our dining recommendations were awesome and we particularly enjoyed our time with the guides.
Next, we flew to Krabi for unforgettable views and relaxing beach time. Again, the resort was awesome. We even went mountain climbing on Railay Beach. My son got engaged at the New Year's gala at our hotel, which was spectacular; an unbelievable stay. We particularly enjoyed our time with the guide!
Next, we finished in Bangkok, where the highlight was riding in the tuk-tuks and doing a city food tour. Our guide was so awesome and knowledgeable.
Unfortunately, eight of the 10 of us then flew home, while my wife and I continued to Siem Reap, Cambodia. Our guide was such a good travel companion and we left Cambodia with a true knowledge of Cambodian life/history/temples. He was very forthcoming about his life growing up under the Khmer Rouge. Although a long day, the temple tour was unbelievable, culminating in Angkor Wat. Our hotel was awesome and blocks from the nightlife on Pub Street. It was such a great stay.
Next, we flew to Saigon. We were met by our guide, who noticed we were hungry and immediately stopped at a local street food vendor for our first foray into bun bo. It was so good. The mix of history, countryside visits, and city tours with our guide was awesome and she even left us with a customized pictorial of our visit. The other excursion that needs mention is the Vespa city and food tour. Our main guide was delightful, giving us a true taste of Saigon culture and food. The drivers were so great. This tour finished with a surprise visit to a local bar/club, where we had front-row seats to an awesome Latin band for a nightcap. It was truly unforgettable. Also, we cannot forget our visit to the Cu Chi tunnels, where our guide did a great job educating and touring us through this unbelievable history.
Then, we flew to Hanoi to another awesome location. Highlights in Hanoi would be visiting the Hoa Lo prison, having dinner in a local family's home, and especially the Minsk backstreet tour. Our tour drivers were so awesome. This excursion really gave us a feel for the city/backstreets, as well as an idea of the frightening life of riding a motorbike through the city and back alleys of Hanoi. It was truly unforgettable. This tour finished with my knees about a foot away from the speeding train at Hanoi train station, another can't-miss site!
Next, we visited Ninh Binh for trekking, biking, and bamboo boating. The scenery was awesome and it was definitely a nice break from the busy city.
The trip finished with a two-night, three-day cruise on Hạ Long Bay. The scenery was unbelievable and the staff were excellent; so attentive and informative.
This trip truly was spectacular and we are so happy that Zicasso connected us with our agent to make all of this happen. We couldn't be happier with the entire trip!

We recently completed a 29-day custom-designed tour of Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam with Zicasso’s travel company. As a couple, we have toured 100 countries on six continents. We always travel by ourselves and not in groups. We often plan and book our itinerary and activities on our own. We have experienced tour operators in the past who just string together “cookie-cutter” activities and call it a custom tour. I commend the travel company for not taking this path.
Our tour was completely tailored to our needs. We went through several iterations of the itinerary to match it to our interests and they were untiring in making adjustments to suit our particular needs. The hotels were all of excellent quality and very well located. The itineraries in each of the locations we visited met our expectations and addressed the interests we had discussed with the representatives of the travel company. All of the guides were good and several were amongst the best we have ever had. The support of the travel company was outstanding throughout our trip, with daily check-ins and immediate reactions when assistance was requested. I would rate the tour as exceptional. I unhesitatingly recommend the travel company.

Zicasso’s travel agency worked patiently with us over several months to organize a perfect four-country tour through Indochina, doing exactly what we asked, including a Khmer cooking class with a local chef.
We were met on arrival in each county by an experienced English-speaking guide who was well-versed in the history, geography, and culture of each location, and they were just delightful people too. They took us to rural villages and through urban mazes to get a close look at the daily life of the citizens. We chatted with farmers in the field and had meals in local homes. Our agency booked amazing hotels for each stop, from an eco-lodge in the mountains of Vietnam to a spectacular seaside resort in Thailand.
We had contact names and numbers for agency representatives in each country. They were incredibly responsive, even after hours, when we had a small medical issue. They gave us a completely seamless experience from arrival to departure, with no wasted time. Vacation time is very precious, so we prefer to work with professionals who know the area intimately and take the time to understand our objectives rather than pushing a canned itinerary.

To our travel specialist,
We would like to thank you for putting such an amazing trip together for us.
Your hotel choices were spot-on! We were happy to be by the river in Bangkok.
In Hanoi, our guide was a walking Wikipedia. He adjusted our schedule to a perfect spot to see the train upon my request. The signature cruise on a lovely boat was a highlight of the trip.
Our guide in Ho Chi Minh City was great in communication. She reached out on WhatsApp before our arrival. We enjoyed the Happy Buddha and canoe experience.
The tunnel tour was very disappointing. We seemed very rushed and we listened to other tour guides for information. Lunch was at 10.45am and we arrived at the airport five hours before departure.
Our guide in Bangkok was so compassionate. She taught us about offerings and the lotus. The river location was perfect for us.
Our guide in Chiang Mai was very soft-spoken and gave us a fabulous tour. She wanted us to experience the “northern food!"
The elephant sanctuary you chose was perfect, with just the right amount of time.
In Phuket, we were not picked up by our assigned driver. Our guide was there with a driver. She was helpful in the airport upon our return to Hong Kong.
This was an amazing trip for both of us!
Thank you so much!

We used Zicasso for the third time and, once again, were not disappointed. We went to Thailand and Vietnam. Our agent helped design our trip and was absolutely wonderful. From hotel to excursion options, he helped us to tailor the trip to exactly what we wanted. He was always available and kept checking on us throughout our trip.
As far as the actual trip, everything was amazing. Our tour guides were such wonderful people who were not only immensely kind, but also so knowledgeable, filling us in on so much of the history of Thailand. We were met at every destination with private transfers that made the trip so effortless. For any minor hiccups (of which there were next to none), all we had to do was contact our agent and his team took care of it immediately. With their assistance, we were able to focus on enjoying our vacation without any stress at all.
In Vietnam, we were met by a guide in Hanoi, yet another wonderful tour guide who made sure our every need was met and who also provided us a local’s perspective on Vietnam’s history and culture. In Hoi An, our guide was very nice and provided amazing recommendations for places to eat. Our expeditions were all wonderful experiences and our only regret was not being able to stay longer.
Zicasso has only given us wonderful experiences on the trips we have planned using their services. We are clearly repeat customers and will continue to be so. We can’t wait for our next trip with Zicasso!
