London – Introductions to Royalty at Kensington Palace

Regal traditions stretch all across London, from the bizarre spectacle of guards changing outside Buckingham Palace to the grand meeting rooms of residing monarchs. Picture the Queen's accommodations, King's resting quarters, glittering dresses worn by 19th-century royalty; there's a wonderful air of opulence to discover on your first day in London. You're greeted at the airport and transferred to a five-star hotel in Mayfair, London's premier central address. Dependent on flight times, you'll enjoy a visit to the staterooms of Buckingham Palace, the working residence of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Relax at the hotel before an evening tour that intimately unveils the pomp of regality.

Lavish and decadent, Kensington Palace has been in royal hands since William III in the 17th century. Tours to England are especially breathtaking on a private access tour, starting in the sumptuous State Apartments. Elaborate golden details are etched into the ceilings, world-famous paintings hang in the corridors, and the decoration radiates classical history. Wander up the Grand Staircase, admire the silk wedding dress and private wardrobe of Queen Victoria II, and rest your toes in the sumptuous Turkish carpets of Queen Mary II's private rooms. Completing the invitation into royalty is an evening reception with canapés and wine. Consider reading some of our England traveler reviews to further refine and perfect your own personal itinerary.

Detailed Description

London and Paris can captivate for months. Picture famous art in the Louvre and the Tate, a journey by boat on the Thames or the Seine, ticking off world-renowned landmarks like Big Ben and the Eiffel Tower. But everyone seems to see the same side to these famous cities, frantically touring the sights that have been photographed by half the world. Instead, go behind the scenes in the cities that continue to enchant, just without the crowds and with far more fascination. You could see the famous canvases of the impressionists. Or you could tour the bridges and villages that were painted. In the Tower of London, you can get a sense of England's history. But on a private tour with a Jewel House Warden, you'll have exclusive access to the crowns and diamonds owned by the monarchy. Even if you've visited London and Paris many times before, this carefully crafted private luxury tour of London and Paris reveals a very different side, one that few people get to experience.

On this handcrafted itinerary, you combine five nights in London with three nights in Paris. Each day features a carefully selected private tour that showcases a new angle, plus there's plenty of time to explore at leisure, so you don't miss out on any of your must-visit sites. Royal London introductions come at Kensington Palace, a closed-door tour revealing the reception rooms of the monarchy and a fabulous private art collection. Uncover the buildings that have defined rock and roll history with a tailored music tour, including the Abbey Road crossing immortalized by The Beatles. Explore local markets in London's East End, destinations with an atmosphere unchanged for over a century; think cockney rhyming slang and jellied eels amongst other bizarre traditions. After a private viewing of the crown jewels, you discover a clandestine WWII narrative, with Churchill's bunkers and war rooms being another redolent slice of London history.

Paris is equally resplendent when you get off the beaten track. While there's free time to visit some of the monuments that tower above the River Seine, three sumptuous tours reveal so much more. Marie Antoinette is synonymous with the city, and a unique journey covers the evocative chronicles of France's most famous lady. Sensual and surprising, a culinary tour uncovers the cafes and treats favored by locals. Then you're out into the countryside, meandering through cute villages painted by Van Gogh and exploring Monet's hypnotic bridges. You'll even have time for a beer in the timeless cafes that the Impressionists once drank in. While most leave Paris with a postcard of the Champs-Elysees, you will end up behind the scenes at Versailles and in the charming alleyways revered by the locals.

France Vacation Review: Paris, Nantes, Bordeaux, Giverny, Monet Experience, 6 Days

I had been hesitant to book a trip to France because of the difficulty of language. I had the opportunity to visit friends in Nantes and Bordeaux, but wanted to take a tour of Paris first. I needed help with transportation to and from the airport, to our hotel, and to and from the Paris train stations. I also wanted to take tours to a few iconic landmarks. The Zicasso company helped with all these requests and also gave us a driver and guides to some of the landmarks. With all this support from Zicasso, we had a seamless itinerary and a most wonderful and magical time in Paris.

France Travel Review: Normandy, Paris, D-Day Sites, Louvre, Versailles, Pastry Tour, Cooking Class, 1-Week Trip

This was my family's first international vacation. We have traveled internationally a lot for mission work, and that is usually done as a group, working with local people, so we have never needed a travel agent. When we made the decision to travel to France for our Christmas vacation, I knew I needed some help. I searched online and came across Zicasso. They were wonderful to work with and put me in touch with our travel specialist.

I was impressed from the first email I received from her and it only got better from there. We talked a couple of times on the phone and the rest of our communication was through email. She was always prompt to reply and answered all of our questions. She developed a great itinerary for us.

We spent three nights in the Normandy area and five nights in Paris. Our hotels were very small, local hotels, with a lot of charm. We loved them both. Not only did she organize our itinerary for us, she also arranged all of our transportation for our tours and getting us to and from the airport. All of our drivers were very professional and extremely prompt.

We did tours in Normandy and Paris. In Normandy, our guides were from the same tour company and were very knowledgeable. We did a full-day tour of the American D-Day sites and it was clear that our guide had a true passion for what he was doing.

When we arrived in Paris, she scheduled a pastry and chocolate walking tour (highly recommend), a private tour of the Louvre, and a private tour of the Palace of Versailles. She also scheduled us for a macaron cooking class in Paris and we loved it. My daughter (11 years old) loves macarons and had a wonderful time getting to make her own.

I cannot recommend this travel company enough. The travel specialist was fantastic and if I ever get the opportunity to go back to Paris, I will certainly want her to plan my trip.
