Lisbon for Lovers: 10-Day Couples Tour

Zicasso exceeded our expectations! Our travel specialist listened to our requests, considered our lifestyle, and created the perfect 10-day itinerary through Portugal. We had amazing experiences we never could have planned on our own. While we are comfortable traveling on our own, this eliminated the stress. We cannot wait to plan our next adventure!

Zicasso’s tour company was quick to respond to our initial request, and was easy to work with to put together a trip around a family wedding my brother and I were attending on Portugal's west coast. Because we were traveling together, I asked for either 2 separate rooms or a 2-bedroom suite/apartment. They proposed two apartment-style accommodations.

The Lisbon apartment exceeded expectations. It seemed like a boutique hotel with apartments with full kitchens that were stocked with breakfast items and personalized daily fresh bread/pastry delivery to the door.

The only issues we had was with the apartment in Porto which seemed more like a regular short term rental. The location of the apartment in Porto was great, but it did not provide breakfast, which we were told ahead of time. However, we didn't really realize the impact that would make given our tour schedule and were lucky to have gone to a grocery store for a few staples.

The apartment was not well maintained, had a large stain on the rug in the TV room and stains on some towels. Also, I had to request service to unclog the slow/clogged drains in the bathroom sinks and showers, which was completed the following day. I provided pictures of the apartment and feedback, which the travel company seemed rather surprised by, as they had clients stay at this location previously and were very apologetic about it.

The was no comparison between the apartments in Lisbon and Porto, they were not on the same level, not even close.

The tours and drivers they set up were great, and we had a combo of private and small group. The travel company gave us a daily rundown of our itinerary and were quick to answer any questions.

We spent the first half of our trip in Lisbon, with unforgettable day trips to Sintra, Nazaré, and Óbidos. She was also wonderful with our family and made every excursion engaging for both adults and children.

For the second half of our vacation, we traveled to Lagos in the Algarve. Our kids had an incredible time at the waterpark and loved kayaking through the stunning sea caves. These experiences were perfectly chosen for our family and created lasting memories.

One of the things we appreciated most was that all of our guides and drivers were Portuguese. This gave us an authentic perspective on the country, its culture, and its people that we never would have experienced otherwise.

We just returned from a 13-day trip covering Porto, Lisbon, Rabat, the Agafay Desert, and Marrakech, and the trip exceeded what we had hoped for. We are a family of five, ranging from our early 60s to mid-20s, and Zicasso's travel specialist built an itinerary that worked well for all of us, with some unique experiences that suited our interests and travel style.

He was consistently responsive throughout the planning process and followed through on every detail. More importantly, the on-the-ground logistics in both countries worked well: private drivers arrived on time, guides were knowledgeable and personable, and the accommodations were well chosen. Our camp in the Agafay Desert was a particular highlight.

What made the trip genuinely worthwhile was the texture of it. The Portuguese side offered the kind of immersion you don't get from a highlights tour: a sidecar ride through Porto's historic quarters, a kayaking day in the Douro Valley, and a cooking class the morning we flew to Morocco. The Moroccan half was equally substantive, from the Rabat medina to the Berber family lunch in the Ourika Valley. We came back feeling like we had experienced both cultures, something that we try to really accomplish when we travel.

If you are considering this type of itinerary, this travel specialist is the right person to plan it. I'd book with him again without hesitation.

We have taken about 10 trips through Zicasso and this tour operator is among the two best we have worked with. The travel specialist is incredibly attentive, organized, and responsive. She and her team didn't miss a beat in a three-week trip all over Portugal and the Azores, and quickly accommodated changes resulting from weather, a flight cancellation, and our simply opting not to do a scheduled activity.

Our guides/drivers were punctual, knowledgeable, and pleasant.

Our travel specialists even insisted on taking us to the Lisbon airport at 4:30 a.m., even taking us directly to the security check-in. They definitely go the extra mile and will pay close attention to your travel style and interests.

We particularly loved the food tours in Lisbon and Porto. The leaders were great and we learned so much while tasting and drinking delicious samples of Portuguese life and tradition.

We received information each day as to what to expect, with great detail. A “turnkey” operation without the crowds of large organized tour trips. The travel specialist did a great job! Thank you.
