Casablanca - Picturing Casablanca
Casablanca is a striking main gateway into Morocco. The city bolsters modern vigor and energy with classic architecture. The past is simultaneously present in the stunning Art Nouveau structures that harken back to French colonialism, and yet absent in the modern chic restaurants of the seaside Corniche, the beachfront district filled with lavish luxury hotels and elegant beach clubs. Your private transfer greets you at the airport before escorting you to a hotel located in the heart of the city. Palm trees line the wide avenues in the city center. The soft breeze carries the scent of the Atlantic Ocean.
The sounds of the city are vivacious. Art galleries showcase local and international artists in floor to ceiling display windows lining the Rue Jaafer el Barmaki Avenue. Your Morocco itinerary begins with your guide meeting you at your hotel and eagerly taking you out to the city streets, venturing to the Hassan II Mosque. The sunlight reflects off of the azure water. The minaret stands nearly 690 feet tall, making it the world’s tallest. It is easy to see the majesty in the mosque’s architectural design and its setting on the coastline. The current brushes the water against the rock-lined shores. One of the most elegant elements of the mosque is the prayer room floor that is made of glass. When worshippers kneel, they face the gentle turquoise of the Atlantic.

The custom trip and itinerary were developed by Zicasso’s travel company and they made numerous recommendations for exploring, starting in Spain, in Madrid, and continuing down to numerous Andalusian cities, including Seville, Granada, Gibraltar, Málaga, and Córdoba.
Not only was the itinerary prepared with great detail and consideration, but every effort was taken to ensure the lodging requested met five-star requirements. Drivers and guides were assigned to us at all of our destinations, and this included airport arrivals and departures. Drivers and guides were not only punctual, they were personable and extremely knowledgeable, with decades of experience.
Our trip continued to Morocco, where we flew into Casablanca from Málaga. Again, airport connections were perfect and we had VIP arrival service on landing. Our driver and guide were aligned with us for the week we spent between Oualidia and Marrakech. Lodging was exceptional and our expectations were certainly exceeded.
Furthermore, the travel company made it a point to communicate with us openly over WhatsApp, answering the few questions we had in a prompt manner and checking in with us throughout the trip.
This is the first time I have 100% used a travel company and I could not have been more pleased with the delivery of the trip and the overall cost.

We just completed our amazing trip to Marrakech and Portugal… this trip exceeded our expectations. We (six of us—three couples) have so many memories from this trip; ones we will cherish for a long time.
First, we want to especially thank our travel specialist. Thank you—you made our trip the best.
Highlights included having every transfer smooth and on time, and every guide we had during the trip was super-engaged and informative.
All six of us highly recommend the travel company and our travel specialist in particular. We will definitely utilize this travel company again!

Our 10-day trip to Morocco through Zicasso’s travel company was everything we hoped for and more. Our travel specialist, his staff, and particularly our driver, met our expectations and beyond. Our accommodations, made at their suggestion, were extraordinary. Our guides were knowledgeable and friendly. We felt truly pampered and were personally cared for from the moment we met our driver at the airport until we sadly said "goodbye."

A+ and much kudos to Zicasso’s tour company. The owner, driver, and local guides were all excellent. The hotels (riads) were incredible.

Our driver was spectacular—professional, caring, appropriately protective, and a fabulous driver. Conversation was fun, easy, interesting, and informative. We thoroughly enjoyed his company.
Local guides were amazingly knowledgeable—a much higher quality than other guides we observed.
Dinner with a local host and her husband was terrific. We recommend this experience with them.
Our riad in Morocco was five stars—a cooking class there would be amazing (also our villa in Morocco).
Our desert camp in Morocco was superb because no one else was there and it was isolated from other camps, and we were alone on our camel ride. The food was awful.

Another magical Zicasso trip. This time to Morocco with a local agency. The travel specialists ensured our family was well taken care of from the minute we landed in Marrakech.
We were greeted by our incredible driver with a basket of pistachios, almonds, apricots, figs, the most delicious dates, and a bag with adapters, a map, small bills and coins (for bathrooms), and a beautifully custom-designed leather backpack with our daughters’ names engraved on it in Arabic. Our whole family agrees that our driver’s hospitality, attention to detail, and love for his country made this trip extra-special. Even though there were many long drives during this trip, our driver always asked when we needed breaks along the way, seemed to know many of our local guides, and ensured we were comfortable and saw key viewpoints during our drive.
One of our most memorable visits was to the blue city of Chefchaouen. We stayed in a riad on New Year’s Eve and were treated to live music and delicious Moroccan food for dinner. The next day we had plans to hike to a waterfall; however, the rains flooded much of the path and the travel specialist asked if we were okay to take a walking tour of Chefchaouen instead. We were grateful for this flexibility and all very impressed with our local guide. Since he grew up there, he took us to many of his favorite spots, including a walk along the river where we had the absolute best pomegranates we have ever had. Not only the fruit itself, but we were then treated to pomegranate juice and a special combination of orange and pomegranate, which remains our family’s favorite.
On our way to Fes, we stopped in Volubilis. Again, our guide made the tour of these Roman ruins and UNESCO World Heritage Site one to remember. Our guide’s in-depth historical knowledge and ability to find the perfect photo spots made the ruins come to life. We are thankful we took the time to stop here.
Our stay in our riad in Fes was truly remarkable. The intricate details in both of our rooms, the superb breakfast, and excellent service will hold a special place in our hearts. Again, the local guide who took us through the souks and then the food tasting tour grew up in the community and seemed to know the local favorites.
Our driver’s keen driving skills helped us maneuver through a winter storm in the Middle Atlas Mountains. The road closed for many hours, but with our driver’s patience and perseverance we managed to cross the mountains and have lunch in a great local spot.
Riding the camels in the Sahara to our desert camp was a memorable experience for all of us. The camp itself was absolutely exceptional. Heated tents with private bathrooms and very comfortable beds were beyond what we imagined. We were treated to a delicious dinner that night and sang and played music with the local camp guides after the glorious sunset. After catching the sunrise and a scrumptious breakfast, we began our long journey back to Marrakech, going through the towns of Skoura and Ait Benhaddou.
In Marrakech, the travel company arranged for us to stay in our hotel, where we made spa appointments for the most soothing hammams and had lovely breakfasts each morning. In addition to the local shopping and especially the spice seller, our highlight was definitely the cooking class on the farm with our chef, where we learned three kinds of tagines with couscous, salad, and desserts. We toured the farm and just had an amazing experience with our chef and her sous chef. We treasure the recipes we learned and have already recommended the farm’s cooking class to friends. It is absolutely worth the drive of 29km outside of Marrakech.
Our trip concluded with a wonderful stay in the coastal town of Essaouira, probably our favorite town. Walking along the seaside, having fresh fish, and meandering along the square gave us wonderful memories to bring back home.
We are so grateful for Zicasso, the travel company, our driver, and all our local guides for this five-star trip. Thank you so very much for helping us make such a delightful family memory!
