The arrival will feel especially good if you have any apprehension about what to expect in Central America, as you can just sit back in the carriage and take in the impressions from a private vantage point. Central America has a little bit of magic for all ages. Finding the ruins of a Maya city deep in the rainforest with howler monkeys guarding crumbled avenues and then lazing away a day on a Caribbean beach with warm shallow waters for the children to safely play in. Feel the excitement of walking on a volcano or canoeing a wildlife-dappled river, or take a horse and carriage ride across the cobblestone of colonial Antigua. This is a region with something for everyone, whether gazing over the Pacific Ocean or wandering through the rainforest.
Your 3-week vacation across three countries is handcrafted for families of all ages and interests, taking in a mix of highlights across Guatemala, Belize, and Costa Rica. There will be lots of action as you travel to seven different destinations, but there will also be plenty of downtimes. Stay on a quiet Caribbean beach in Placencia, and then finish the vacation with several days on a Pacific Ocean beach. There will be something for everyone that makes Central America special in between.
Antigua provides a charming city experience and is a great introduction to the region. Fly direct to Flores for two Guatemalan days amid rainforest and Maya ruins, and then it is a short drive across the border to the beauty of Belize. Enjoy the wildlife and the cultural odyssey along the Macal River before your flight to the Caribbean and Placencia. Fly from Belize City to San Jose where your first Costa Rican destination will be the cloud forests and coffee plantations of Central Valley. Travel north for several days around the Arenal Volcano, Costa Rica’s most iconic destination, and then end your Central America family odyssey at Papagayo Peninsula on the Pacific Ocean. We celebrated my daughter's high school graduation with a 12-day trip to Costa Rica. I interviewed several local travel agencies and fell in love with Zicasso's tour company from the very first phone conversation. The owner was fantastic to work with, helping me craft the perfect adventure-filled, action-packed vacation for my family. He was honest and took the time to listen to our preferences. He provided great feedback and suggestions.
Prior to our trip, I felt very confident that I was in good hands and knew that every detail was taken care of. During our trip, the company owner checked in with me several times to make sure everything was ok. Unfortunately, someone in my family had to go home early and he was so helpful in coordinating an extra trip to the airport to accommodate our family needs (it required an extra nine hours of driving and a hotel stay for the driver).
The company owner and our agent were generous enough to not charge me for this extra trip. They even canceled all the hotel and activity reservations for that family member, and I received a refund at the end of my trip! It truly was a trip of a lifetime. I found myself thinking, I wish there was a travel company like this for every country because I would use them again to plan my next vacation, wherever it may be!
I also want to give a special shoutout to my driver, who drove my family on several long road trips during our vacation. During our drives, he would spot many interesting animals and birds, and stop on the side of the road so we could get out and get great pictures. Some of my best close-up opportunities to look at animals occurred while in the car. He talked about the agriculture, the school system, and the different rainforests. He even bought plantain chips from the side of the road and shared them with my family. Even though his job was to drive us from point A to point B, I felt his knowledge and his ability to spot animals was better than many of the tour guides we had on the trip. He really cared about Costa Rica and was excited to show us all it had to offer.
I highly recommend this travel company. And ask for our driver to drive you around; you won't be disappointed.

Zicasso's travel agents did an awesome job listening to our travel preferences and crafting an unforgettable trip for our family. We received several options for accommodations and experiences from their trusted partners, which were all incredible. Their team thought of everything and frequently checked in on us throughout the trip, providing dining recommendations and suggestions for slight changes in the travel schedule.
It was so nice to enjoy the trip and to know all of the details had been meticulously thought through and were managed behind the scenes. There was something for all of us: adventure, history, unforgettable experiences (swimming with sharks and sea turtles, reeling in lots of big fish, the ATM cave and Monkey River, and the private island resort we stayed at were all highlights!).
