Amazing Australia Kangaroo Safari for Families

From the south of Melbourne, it takes about 20 minutes to be in the wild amid kangaroos and koalas. Local wildlife trackers explore the nature reserve before you and then radio in different koala locations. You will explore by tram with a local guide before spending the afternoon with an Aboriginal artist. All ages can participate in creating their own painting of dots and lines, making this a cultural and accessible family experience. You can narrate your kangaroo story from yesterday before heading back to the seaside for another quiet night in southern Melbourne.

After flying from Melbourne to Kangaroo Island, you will check in to a sublime island lodge that is perched halfway between the ocean and hopping marsupials. Australia’s famous animals roam freely on this island, and you can often see kangaroos and wallabies directly from your lodge. There will be no specific activity for today. You can enjoy the beach, savor the sight of wild kangaroos, and appreciate the space and silence out here. Kangaroo Island is a real escape that provides you with all the space you need as a family. With so much wildlife, there is rarely a dull moment.

Over half of Kangaroo Island is a protected area, and there is so much to discover. Today’s safari will lead you to secret places in search of rare and elusive species. Tammar wallabies gather in their hundreds, and echidnas provide unique experiences. You can see geckos and skinks along with possums and a real dragon. Kangaroo Island has its own kangaroo species, and their chocolate-colored skin makes for lovely photos, especially when your children are also in the frame. All meals will be included during your three-day safari here.

These three days on the island will be completely customizable, so your exact program can be adapted after you arrive and meet your private guide. The general program will be to allow for a day for wildlife on land, and a day to discover marine life. Whales and dolphins are regular visitors to these shores, and a small-boat tour will hopefully mean that you get very close to them. There are some beautiful swimming and snorkeling spots around the island, and you can focus on safely encountering Australian sea lions.

To reach Sydney, you will need to travel via Adelaide, which means that today will be the longest bit of travel during your trip. After landing at the airport, you will transfer to Sydney Harbour Bridge, where a very special experience will get you and your kids really excited. The bridge climb takes three hours, and you will walk slowly up the steel frame until you reach the perfect city view. This climb is possible for anyone over the age of seven and at least 47 inches tall. This will be a thrilling way to start your Sydney city experience.

New South Wales has different wildlife rules compared to Victoria and South Australia. Here, you can actually touch the wildlife, which is something your children may have been waiting for since day one. A local conservationist will guide you around a wildlife sanctuary for rehabilitated animals, so you can all get up-close koalas, wallabies, kangaroos, and some of the country’s other endemic species.
