Detailed Description

Australia and New Zealand offer an untamed playground for your camera, their compelling landscapes providing a stage for a photographic adventure that exudes diversity. Multiple colors dance before your lens on this Australia and New Zealand photography tour. Dramatic geology provides a visual feast while the inimitable residents ensure a rich focal point. Keep the camera ready at all times as you journey through the finest landscapes the Southern Hemisphere can offer. Just driving to a destination offers innumerable opportunities to focus and click, while both countries revel in their ability to throw in a surprise. Some scenes are tailor-made for the camera; burning red Uluru in the desert, subalpine lakes and mountains around Queenstown, or capturing Sydney from any angle. Others provide intrigue and challenge, contrasting colors requiring a good eye and careful manipulation.

It all starts in New Zealand, the volcanic North Island providing the backdrop for the first three days. After flying into Auckland, you'll be journeying back in time, descending on Middle Earth and the hypnotic Hobbiton movie set. It's quite a journey with every angle offering the iconic New Zealand countryside. Geothermal activity rumbles beneath your feet, bursting out of prehistoric looking rock in the Maori town of Rotorua. Capture the sudden explosions of water before switching to portrait mode as a Maori tribe provides a traditional greeting and evening of entertainment. Ruggedness and drama shape the South Island's landscape, your camera tested by snow-capped peaks, thunderous waterfalls, and immense fjords. And that's just when you journey to Milford Sound. Helicopter over the Fjordlands and land on an exposed glacier, and later soak up the serene beauty of Queenstown.

After five days in New Zealand, you cross the Tasman Sea and take in the vibrant cityscape of Sydney. With the Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, and surfers on Bondi Beach, there are plenty of iconic scenes to keep you clicking away. Compliment the city exploration with a meandering trip into the Blue Mountains, a World Heritage Site that defies the eyes. Uluru at sunset is equally iconic, but your trip into Australia's red center comes with added surprise. Open the shutter and capture the incredulous night sky, and wake before dawn to see sunrise between the domes of Kata Tjuta and the world's biggest monolith.

Each day is packed with action and intrigue, picturesque scenes greeting you from every angle. There's also plenty of time to rest and relax, after all, these countries are famed for their indelibly laid-back rhythm. Completing the itinerary are three days of unique experiences around Melbourne. Weave along the Great Ocean Road, each corner bringing countless opportunities for award-winning photos. Enjoy the scenery with rainforest tumbling into the ocean, hidden sandy bays, and cliffs cast adrift in the ocean; it's a day of disbelieving sights. Then again, so is your trip into the bush and an intimate experience with wild koalas and bouncing kangaroos.

This lost continent and tailored itinerary will excite every photographer. Combining the iconic and the unknown, this Australia and New Zealand vacation hones your skills for capturing the images that make most of the world drool.

Australia Tour Review: Melbourne, Phillip Island, Tasmania, Hobart, Freycinet, Maria Island, Great Barrier Reef, Sydney, Bridge Climb, Opera Tour, 13 Days

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Australia and, with the help of Zicasso’s travel specialists and the team, we were taken care of in every way possible. Working with the travel specialist was a breeze; she helped bring our trip ideas to life while also offering some great suggestions of her own. During the trip, we were also supported by the team when we needed to reconfirm details or track down missing documents (like our park pass, which we had forgotten to bring) and finalize all of the trip details.

The hotels were stunning and each excursion was more incredible than the last. Our guides were friendly, knowledgeable, and professional, which made each experience even more enjoyable.

We highly recommend using this travel agency and Zicasso for an unforgettable trip!

New Zealand Vacation Review: Christchurch, Queenstown, Doubtful Sound, Te Anau, Lake Tekapo, Kaikoura, Cruise, Bike Tour, Glowworm Caves, 3-Week Trip

We had a great trip! All the logistics and connections were spot-on. If I had it to plan again, I would incorporate fewer long drives and possibly take one or two short flights. We had three days of actual driving five-plus hours, which turned into six to seven hours with stops.

Highlights included the Christchurch tour, the Around the Basin bike tour in Queenstown, the Doubtful Sound overnight cruise, biking around Lake Tekapō, as well as Kaikōura, and the glowworm caves in Te Anau. The TranzAlpine train was enjoyable. However, the mountain scenery encountered was not as dramatic as that seen in the more southern areas.

Unfortunately, our helicopter ride to the glaciers in Franz Josef was rained out. Our days in Queenstown were muted with fog, so both the gondola dinner experience, as well as the dinner cruise on Lake Wakatipu, were somewhat compromised. Both activities involved large buffets, with mediocre food and lots of tourists.

We enjoyed the Fiordland jet-boat ride and the biking back option. I felt the portion on the water was a bit light on the 360 turns and heavy on the nature focus. The Dark Sky experience was a disappointment, as wind conditions only allowed our group to go to the crater, not the observatory. Add to that a very bright, near-full moon and the conditions were not ideal for viewing.

After that late-night experience, the next day we drove to Lake Tekapō (with stops, six to seven hours). Between the time in the car and a developing hip issue that could compromise the required hiking, we decided not to drive one-and-a-half hours the next morning to Mount Cook for the Tasman Glacier tour.

Kaikōura is an attractive, quiet coastal town that was a nice final stop on our itinerary. We rented bikes and traversed the Peninsula Trail, including the seal colony.

All of our accommodations were in line with the parameters that we gave Zicasso’s travel specialist regarding location, ratings, and features. We especially enjoyed our hotel in Christchurch, our hotel in Te Anau, and our inn in Kaikōura. The motel in Lake Tekapō was the most dated property; however, the location was fabulous.

Again, we had a wonderful trip and I have already recommended this travel company to our friends, who are booked later this year.
