Detailed Description

There is no better way to experience the whimsy, passion, and warmth of Spanish culture than through its culinary excellence. Each region has its specialty, from fresh seafood along the coast to an eclectic blend of savory tapas in central and southern Spain. In between, you will learn about the ingredients and undeniably rich flavors that set Spanish gastronomy apart from any other cuisine. Of course, during the month of October, you will also attend some of the most lively festivals of the year.

You will begin your 7-day tour in the bustling city of Barcelona. Here, locals sit out on sunkissed patios, and children gather to play soccer. In the afternoon, you will roll up your sleeves for an authentic paella cooking class with a private Michelin-starred chef. The following day, you will explore the city's Gothic Quarter, which is home to opulent palaces and grand cathedrals. You will also catch a glimpse of famed architect Antoni Gaudi's whimsical designs at La Sagrada Familia and Park Guell. Later, you will venture to the Catalan countryside for a wine tasting event alongside an expert sommelier.

Your tour through Catalonia will continue in the charming town of Girona. Bright facades of yellow, orange, and red will welcome you. You will then tour the exquisite Arab baths and walk along the ancient Roman wall that surrounds the city. That evening, you can partake in a fresh seafood dinner as the moonlight shines on the crashing waves.

Then, you will transfer to the nation's capital of Madrid. Here, you will stroll through the Plaza Mayor and catch wafts of savory tapas in the Plaza del Sol. The next morning, you can bite into sugary sweets known as churros in one of the oldest churrerias in the country. Later in the day, you will walk through the opulent halls of the Royal Palace and visit the Reina Sofia Museum as part of the city's annual Architecture Week. Next, you can continue to the picturesque city of Consuegra, where you will attend the town's annual saffron festival. Here, you will learn about the cultivation of the spice and the integral role it plays in Spain's culinary scene. On your final day in Spain, you will arrive in Malaga, where you can enjoy a morning of leisurely shopping and sightseeing before indulging in a light lunch along the coastline.

Spain Travel Review: Madrid, Seville, Malaga, Alhambra, Flamenco Show, 10-Day Trip

Our group of five ladies recently returned from a wonderful 10-day trip to Spain, visiting Madrid, Seville, and Málaga. From the very beginning, working with Zicasso’s travel specialists made the entire experience seamless and enjoyable.

During the planning stages, our travel specialist was outstanding. We had several phone calls and exchanged numerous emails, and he always listened carefully to my suggestions, while offering thoughtful recommendations of his own. Together, we created a customized itinerary that perfectly suited our group. Highlights included the flamenco show, guided tours of Madrid, Triana, Málaga, the Alhambra, and the Real Alcazar in Seville.

All of our tour guides were local, knowledgeable, and passionate about sharing the history, culture, and culinary traditions of their cities. We particularly enjoyed our time in Triana with a local guide and our tour in Madrid with another local guide. Their insights and enthusiasm made our experiences even more memorable.

The logistics throughout the trip were excellent. Every transfer between airports, hotels, and train stations was punctual and professionally handled. Our drivers were always on time, courteous, and reliable.

The hotels selected for us were beautiful, comfortable, and conveniently located. The standout was our hotel in Málaga, which was absolutely stunning. We also appreciated the excellent breakfast options at each property. An added convenience was that every hotel allowed us to check in early, something our group greatly appreciated after traveling.

Throughout the trip, our travel specialists remained in close communication with us and were always responsive to any questions or requests. Our specialist consistently provided advance information regarding our guides and meeting locations, which made everything easy and stress-free. When our train from Málaga to Madrid was rescheduled to an earlier departure time, she promptly notified us, sent updated tickets, and arranged an earlier hotel pick-up, ensuring that everything went smoothly.

The level of stress that often accompanies international travel was significantly reduced thanks to the professionalism, organization, and attention to detail provided by the travel specialists. It was truly a pleasure working with them and their dedication ensured that every aspect of our trip ran smoothly.

We would not hesitate to recommend their services to anyone planning a trip to Spain. They helped create a memorable experience that our group will cherish for years to come.

Spain Tour Review: Barcelona, Madrid, Seville, Malaga, Toledo, Granada, 10 Nights

The owners of Zicasso’s tour company were amazing from start to finish. They curated a custom trip for us to Barcelona, Madrid, Seville, Málaga, Toledo, and Granada. They listened to our requests and came up with a brilliant itinerary that included personal drivers, hotels, dining recommendations, and tour guides. They were also so quick to respond to our questions and pivot our plans when needed. This was a very special 30th-anniversary trip for us and they knocked it out of the park.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip. Transport A+; guides A+; except in Barcelona; hotels B+: Madrid and Granada rooms overlooking the street were noisy—we had little sleep and an AC malfunction in one—so we needed to change rooms; food/market tours A+; cooking class A++; and the range of activities.

Spain Travel Review: Barcelona, Seville, Walking Tour, Cooking Class, Shoemaking Workshop, 12-Day Tour

The trip was lovely, but our itinerary was too busy. We’re seniors and enjoy downtime each day. Some of the trips with drivers were too long. Our hotel in Barcelona was very nice with great food. The hotel in Seville was disappointing. The concept of Zicasso is good, but age-appropriate planning would be an improvement.
