Get ready to explore La Paz, Manuel Antonio National Park, Arenal,...
La Paz – Smothered in Cacao
Your Costa Rican vacation will begin the moment that you land in San Jose, and a nearby cacao plantation will be the perfect place to engage your kids immediately. You will be picked up at the airport by your driver and transferred to La Paz. Along the way, you will stop at an organic farm, where you can wander through the cacao bushes and wonder how such a bizarre plant can create such a delicious delicacy. From the cacao plantation, you will continue your journey to La Paz, which is a small destination that is surrounded by lush valleys. Here, your welcoming dinner will be complemented by traditional song and dance and a platter of local cuisine.
La Paz – Wonders of an Active Volcano
This morning, you will visit Poas Volcano National Park for a family treasure hunt on one of Central America’s most active volcanos. You do not need to worry because this is a very safe experience. Your local guide will lead you on an educational treasure hunt as you search for geological clues on the volcano, such as fumaroles and sulfur. After your scavenger hunt, lunch will be included at a nearby coffee plantation. Then, after eating, you can explore the organic farm, where you will follow the coffee-making process from bean to cup before sampling some of the finest coffee on the planet. You can all learn how to discern the coffee’s quality during a coffee cupping session.
Manuel Antonio National Park – Pacific Ocean Bliss
By staying in La Paz, you will have a short transfer to San Jose’s airport, where you will board a direct flight to Manuel Antonio National Park. During your time in the national park, you will be able to feel nature and the wonders of the wild while still enjoying a classic beach break. This afternoon will be at your leisure. Overlooking a golden beach, your hotel will be idyllically situated if you want to relax and not do much. In the late afternoon, your guide will lead you to the Pacific for a private catamaran cruise. Drinks and snacks will be served as you cruise along the national park coastline and enjoy a vibrant, Pacific sunset.
Manuel Antonio National Park – Costa Rican Wildlife
After a day on the beach, today will provide you with a day in nature, exploring the wildlife-rich trails of the remarkable Manuel Antonio National Park. As your adventure continues, you should look out for sloths as you walk, which are slow and baffling creatures that cling to tree trunks. The national park’s size is ideal for families, and you can walk just three miles and experience a stunning array of birds, mammals, and butterflies. After a morning of wildlife, the afternoon will be yours to spend at your leisure, so you can have the opportunity to spend more time on the Pacific beaches.
Arenal – Ziplining Through the Trees
After a relatively late start this morning, you will fly to Arenal. In Arenal, volcanos dominate the landscape, and you will touch down among the soaring mountains and forests of Costa Rica’s interior. After a private transfer and lunch at your resort, the afternoon adventure will reveal the wonders of Arenal’s forested slopes. First, you will travel by sky tram, ascending above the treetops to spectacular views of the water and canopy. You will travel up and then zoom back down via some of the world’s most exciting ziplining tracks. After a couple of short lines, you will continue your journey on a mix of high bridges and more ziplines. Your resort will have its own hot springs, and while these are also public, the entry price for non-staying guests keeps them serene and soothing.
Arenal – The Hanging Bridges of Monteverde
Your family fun will continue on a private adventure to Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. With the Arenal volcano peering down on you, you will cross Lake Arenal, which will prove to be a soothing, morning sight before a rugged track leads you into the clouds. Like yesterday, your experience today will be all about a unique way to explore. Narrow bridges connect enormous trees and hang down over the canopy, offering an idyllic view of the forest life. Hanging bridges are very safe and great for kids. They are like a giant adventure playground route in the midst of pure nature. After coming down for lunch, your local guide will show you the forest floor, where you will have the opportunity to witness more of Costa Rica’s rare animals.
Arenal – Intimate Wildlife Encounters
With a late-afternoon flight out of San Jose, you will have time for some more wide-eyed wonder before your exciting vacation comes to a close. This morning, your children come face to face with different monkeys and sloths. At a wildlife sanctuary the encounters are more guaranteed, so you can see any animal that is on your must-see list. From the sanctuary, you will be transferred to Arenal’s airport for the very short flight to San Jose and your onward connection.

Costa Rica is perfect for families who want comfort with their adventure. Safe and surprisingly small, Costa Rica is a country that packs a wonderful array of experiences into a landscape of wild biodiversity and protected national parks. Volcanos rise like kings above the interior with their iconic shapes towering above cloud forests and tropical hues. Golden Pacific beaches often provide a refreshing breeze, and the thermal hot springs create places to completely unwind. Howler and capuchin monkeys may present themselves in the jungle, while sloths and more than 800 different birds can be witnessed among the trees. During your luxurious, 7-day adventure, you will have excellent family time as Costa Rica is a place to both relax and explore together.
This idyllic, 7-day journey has been handcrafted to include three distinctive destinations, so you can discover three unique sides to the country. La Paz is convenient to travel from San Jose, which is the main international airport, and will create charming experiences with cacao, coffee, and a very active volcano. Manuel Antonio National Park will provide beachside bliss with intimate wildlife experiences. It is also a place where the rolling surf meets monkeys and where you can watch the wide-eyed wonder of your kids. The Arenal area is all about adventure tourism, such as ziplining and walking across hanging bridges in a cloud forest, but the thermal springs and spectacular views mean that this is also a place where you can unwind and find tranquility.
These three destinations will be connected by short local flights, and with seven days in Costa Rica, you can discover much more by flying than you could by losing a day or two on the road. All of your activities will be private, so whether you are smearing your kid’s face in raw cacao or searching for quetzals in the cloud forest, your exact itinerary can be timetabled and customized to you. Hotels and lodges have also been handpicked for their family suitability, and inter-connected rooms will keep you together.
Over these exciting seven days, you will be provided with the opportunity to come face to face with three monkey species, discover some of the world’s finest coffee, ride a sky tram above the forest canopy, and indulge in a family treasure hunt around an active volcano. They have a local saying in Costa Rica that you will hear regularly: Pura Vida, which means that life is very good indeed. Life can be almost perfect when you can explore such wondrous locations with the family on a vacation that will make a week feel like a lifetime of memories.
