Detailed Description

The jungle of Central America crosses the shared border of Guatemala and Belize. Mayan cities rise above the lush trees as natural caves meander through limestone mountains. Volcanic peaks create impressive skylines the surround Spanish colonial cities. Your 10-day tour will introduce you to the highlights of Guatemala and Belize to demonstrate the deep roots of the historical cultures and the marvels of the undulating landscape. The adventure begins with your arrival at La Aurora International Airport in Guatemala City as your private transfer escorts you to the cobblestone streets of colonial Antigua. Next day, your guide leads you on a private tour of the cities historical architecture and the marks of earthquakes past.

The afternoon is yours to explore the city and its surroundings at your leisure. Cycle to surrounding hillside towns or trek the volcanic trails to the summits that overlook the city. Make your way to the charms of San Juan de Comalapa to explore the vibrant, but less visited, weekly market. Continue to the ancient Mayan city of Iximche for your first impression of the Pre-Columbian Mesoamerican archeological site. In the late afternoon, travel to the secluded shores of Panajachel at Lake Atitlan. Traverse the breadth of the lake and visit San Juan La Laguna and the village of Santiago.

The spiritual and cultural connection to the Mayans is prevalent in the highlands. Visit the brimming market of Chichicastenango before your flight to Flores, located near the eastern border of Guatemala. Wake up early for a sunrise tour of Tikal to take in the panorama of colors that shine over the pyramid roof combs. After your tour, your private transfer will escort you to the Guatemala-Belize border. Cross the border and continue to the comforts of your luxury jungle lodge.

Spend the next day relaxing on resort property or venture out into the trees to explore the vibrancy of the landscape. Float down the lazy waters of the Macal River that wind along the property, or explore the ancient Mayan site of Cahal Pech. Next day, visit the ruins of Caracol and take a refreshing dip in the natural pool near Rio Frio Cave. Continue on your adventures with a deep meander into the cave network at Actun Tunichil Muknal, home to Mayan mystique and subterranean rivers. Conclude your trip as your private transfer escorts you to the San Ignacio airstrip for your flight to Belize City.  Connect there for your international departure home.
