Barcelona – Churros, Chocolate, and Captivating Sights

After a long flight comes an indulgent welcome. With church bells ringing in the distance you lounge on a Barcelona terrace, a bubbling pot of chocolate beside your fresh curls of churros. Sweet goodness settles on the tongue and the city wanders past: men in caps pass old theater entrances, locals meet for morning coffee, and an air of enthusiasm mingles with salty Mediterranean scents. Relax with your churros and chocolate, a classic dish to start the culinary adventure. You’re then transferred to a boutique hotel in the heart of the city. Freshen up and take your time before a unique afternoon tour mixes famous sights with local flavors.

Eight-hundred years of history weave through stalls of temptation at La Boquiria market. Smell and sample your way around, many Spanish classics satisfying the preconceptions: freshly sliced jamon, homemade olive oil, cold seafood, and plenty of fluffy white bread. A series of incomplete spires now guide you through the city, quirky Sagrada Familia dominating the skyline. This is Gaudi's eternal masterpiece, a huge ode to ingenious design that will take another ten years to finish. But even in its current state, it's an unforgettable highlight of Spain. Tonight's dinner offers a sophisticated blend of Catalan cuisine. Michelin -Starred Hisop takes the foundations of Catalan cooking and adds a contemporary twist. Think squid with fried egg and truffle, or scallops with caviar and chin, concluded with a bowl of fresh strawberries and lime.

Detailed Description

Spain excites the senses, a frenzy of eclectic flavors running around the tongue from breakfast time until languid evenings dining al fresco. Local favorites are found in historic markets and tapas bars, while contemporary creations weave a spell at Michelin restaurants and elegant vineyards. Of course there's going to be tapas, red wine, jamon, cheese, and fish; but an overarching concept of Spanish cuisine is somewhat of a foreign fabrication. Each of the country's regions presents distinct flavors, reveling in their specialties and centuries old tradition. Tapas in Barcelona are nothing like tapas in Santiago de Compostela. This unique foodies tour combines Spain's four finest culinary regions, taking you on a journey across the north of the country. Move from contemporary Catalan to fiery La Rioja, then continue to traditional Basque Country and seafood inspired Galicia.

This 11-day Spain tour starts in Barcelona and with the tastes of Catalonia. Famous sights mix with gourmet exploration before you journey to Logrono, the capital of La Rioja region. Tapas hop along medieval town streets and you will spend day four discovering the region's celebrated vineyards on an exclusive wine tour. San Sebastian is one of Northern Spain's most sublime stops, a quaint town of artistic splendor and preserved history. This is where Basque flair shines through, epitomized by the pintxos bars and tiny old-world restaurants. Bilbao is equally resplendent in its mix of old and new tastes. For example, you spend the afternoon of day seven dining at a tiny farmhouse, then the evening of day eight in the Guggenheim's Michelin Star restaurant.

This is a real foodies adventure. On some nights you tour half a dozen tapas taverns, each full of atmosphere and creationism. On other evenings you're sitting down in fine dining restaurants. Even the breakfasts celebrate culinary diversity as you start the day with some local favorites. Sagardotegia cider, vintage reds, bubbling chocolate bowls; there's also always a unique liquid to complement the feasts. And it wouldn't be a foodies tour without some hands-on discovery. Three cooking classes reveal the culinary secrets of Catalonia, Basque, and Galicia, each providing vivid new flavors and ideas to take home.

On day nine you fly to Galicia in the northwestern corner of Spain. Delectable seafood comes straight from the Atlantic here, exemplified by Galician octopus, perhaps the finest you can taste anywhere in the world. The region feels practically unchanged since medieval eras, both in the city of Santiago de Compostela and the village squares of Cambados. As the tour winds to a conclusion the fascinating new specialties continue: black sausage, Galician pie, platters of cheese paired effortlessly with wine. Throughout this tour, all meals are included and all tours are private. A handpicked selection of boutique hotels complete the immersion in traditional Spanish cultures and ancient towns.

Spain, Morocco Trip Review: Madrid, Seville, Granada, Gibraltar, Malaga, Cordoba, Casablanca, Oualidia, Marrakech, Tapas Tour, 17 Days

The custom trip and itinerary were developed by Zicasso’s travel company and they made numerous recommendations for exploring, starting in Spain, in Madrid, and continuing down to numerous Andalusian cities, including Seville, Granada, Gibraltar, Málaga, and Córdoba.

Not only was the itinerary prepared with great detail and consideration, but every effort was taken to ensure the lodging requested met five-star requirements. Drivers and guides were assigned to us at all of our destinations, and this included airport arrivals and departures. Drivers and guides were not only punctual, they were personable and extremely knowledgeable, with decades of experience.

Our trip continued to Morocco, where we flew into Casablanca from Málaga. Again, airport connections were perfect and we had VIP arrival service on landing. Our driver and guide were aligned with us for the week we spent between Oualidia and Marrakech. Lodging was exceptional and our expectations were certainly exceeded.

Furthermore, the travel company made it a point to communicate with us openly over WhatsApp, answering the few questions we had in a prompt manner and checking in with us throughout the trip.

This is the first time I have 100% used a travel company and I could not have been more pleased with the delivery of the trip and the overall cost.

Our trip to northern Spain (Basque Country and Asturias) was a spectacular success, and our work with Zicasso’s travel specialist and the travel company were a huge part in making that a reality. The travel specialist was easy to work with, flexible, and efficient in the planning process. She did a wonderful job of listening and responding as we finalized our itinerary. She was also an awesome resource when we were in Spain, communicating with us proactively to check in and also responding promptly to any questions that arose.

Spain Trip Review: 1 Week

Zicasso’s travel specialist was amazing; so patient with me as I asked silly questions, and when blizzards snarled our departure plans four times (!), she rolled with the punches and made adjustments quickly and easily so we didn't miss out on any of the fun and memories! Thank you, I can't wait for our next trip!

Zicasso’s travel specialist designed a wonderful trip for my husband and me. He listened to our desires and picked specific activities and tours that really fit us perfectly. Everything was fantastic. Our tour guides were amazing, hotels were in fantastic locations, and the attention to detail in planning our trip was so evident. This is a trip we will remember forever. A member of the travel company was quick to help when needed, gave us great reminders, and made sure everything ran smoothly.

Spain Travel Review: Cooking Class, 6 Nights

A flawless Spanish escape–Zicasso’s travel specialist is a mastermind!

Our recent vacation, organized by Zicasso’s tour operator, was nothing short of perfection. We worked closely with the travel specialist and I cannot recommend her and her team highly enough. If you are looking for a travel planner who combines a deep personal touch with the efficiency of a world-class executive assistant, look no further.

The Logistics: Seamless and Stress-Free

From the moment we arrived, we felt completely taken care of. One of the best decisions the travel specialist suggested was booking an extra night at our first hotel. This allowed us to check in immediately upon arrival rather than waiting until the afternoon. Those extra hours of rest gave us the energy to actually enjoy our first evening in Spain rather than losing a day to jet lag.

We also loved the small, thoughtful details, like having all of our tickets fully printed and ready for us at check-in. It removed every bit of "digital friction" and let us focus entirely on the experience.

The Accommodations and Experts

The hotel selections were fantastic; not only were the properties beautiful, but they were perfectly central to all the action. This was complemented by the guides the travel specialist arranged for us. Each one was exceptional, truly knowledgeable, and brought the history and culture of Spain to life in a way we never could have discovered on our own.

The Personal Touch and Proactive Care

The standout highlight for us was the cooking class—it was an absolute blast and something we will definitely be doing again on future trips.

However, what truly sets this team apart is their proactive "watchful eye." We had a train delay during our trip and before we even realized there might be a conflict, her team was already on it. They had contacted our vendors and adjusted our pick-up and tour times before we even knew there was an issue. It felt like having a personal executive assistant watching over us 24/7.

Final Verdict

We wouldn't have changed a single item. This was a perfect vacation. Huge thanks to the travel specialist and the entire tour operator for making our dream trip a reality!
