Detailed Description
Costa Rica dazzles from all angles. Howler monkeys shout from the treetops, suspension bridges create excitement, and dolphins play in the wake of catamarans. This Central American country offers a remarkable variety of nature to explore. One day, you will be deep in the rainforest, gazing up at three-toed sloths, and the next, you will discover the mystique of a world above the trees. Beaches will provide you with space to unwind, while Arenal Volcano has so many eco-activities to try. With this family eco-tour through Costa Rica, you will discover ancient biodiversity and a natural world that remains unchanged. Furthermore, through this tour, you will help to preserve Costa Rica’s nature for future generations.
Diversity will be the real highlight of your vacation. After an introductory night in the capital city of San Jose, you will have three nights in each of three destinations. Biodiversity reigns in Manuel Antonio National Park, where over 100 mammals gather close to beautiful, Pacific beaches. It is the perfect destination for adventure, and you can hike past monkey troops, laze around calm bays and beaches, and spend an afternoon sailing on a catamaran. Wildlife sometimes takes center stage, and there can be real excitement here, especially when capuchin monkeys swing past your lodge. Mostly, this destination is about relaxing as a family and enjoying some quiet time together.
After a brief stop in old-world Quepos, you will spend the next three nights high in the clouds. Santa Elena will be your base for eco-adventures in and around Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. Here, you will feel the thrill of Costa Rica as you zipline through the trees and cross magnificent suspension bridges. All the tours are private, so they can be tailored to the age and interest of your kids. Local guides will show you how your vacation is making a difference in terms of Costa Rica’s ecosystem, and you can get involved with planting trees. Santa Elena is an extremely laid-back destination, and once again, you can relax as a family in privacy.
You will complete your eco vacation with three nights in La Fortuna, which is Costa Rica’s most popular destination. There is a lively atmosphere to the town, which can be nice if anyone is feeling a bit restless and wants some excitement during the evenings. Just getting to La Fortuna will be an adventure. To reach La Fortuna, you will be transferred in a 4WD before taking a boat across Lake Arenal. With three days in La Fortuna, you can do so much, such as mountain biking, hiking, canyoning, sailing, and kayaking. You can also spend most of your time in the hot springs, basking in the healing waters. Such an array of options makes La Fortuna an excellent final stop, and you can customize everything around your energy and mood.

Zicasso’s travel specialists pulled off the impossible! They took all of our, admittedly unreasonable, requests and fashioned a fantastic winter getaway vacation. We did not spend too much time in the car, it was not too hot or too humid, and we got a mix of mountains and beach, all at lovely, tranquil, spacious hotels. Both venues had the right mix of activities and downtime, all at the right price point.

We booked late and were impressed with what Zicasso’s travel company was able to put together on short notice.
We stayed at two totally different hotels, both wonderful. Our hotel near Drake Bay was in an amazing location, with breathtaking views. The staff was fantastic and the home-cooked meals were wonderful. The room was comfortable, but small, all you needed, nothing more. More spacious rooms were available; we just booked too late and wanted to stick to a budget. Getting to Drake Bay certainly required some effort, but it was well worth it. One day, we did not go on an excursion and had the entire beach to ourselves, how amazing.
From Drake Bay, we traveled to Puerto Jiménez, which was also a journey, but again, well worth it. The travel company booked us at our hotel in Puerto Jiménez, a hidden gem. We had great excursions, saw lots of wildlife, and met some wonderful people. Here too, the staff was great. We had an amazing time, when can we go back?
Thank you to the travel company for putting a great trip together.
