Ontario: Toronto, Niagara, and the Lake‑Scattered North

What to expect on this itinerary
Experience Ontario during this 11-day Canada tour that focuses on the province's urban ambition and ancient lake-scattered interior. Your journey begins in the bustling and diverse city of Toronto, moving outward from the roar of cities and falling water, through the quiet authority of capital streets, and into the wilderness where wind whispers through spruce and the cry of a loon bird sings across cold water. Canada is a vast, largely untouched landscape, and everything built on it sits at the edge of something much older and much larger.

Toronto - The Neighbourhood City and the View from Above
As you travel from the airport to your downtown hotel, your first impression of Toronto presents itself as a series of diverse neighborhoods, visible in the way a single block might hold a Somali restaurant, a Greek butcher, a Vietnamese bakery, and a Caribbean record shop side by side. This afternoon, take a walk through the Kensington Market, a compressed neighborhood where a Venezuelan arepa counter sits next to a Portuguese fishmonger and a vintage clothing shop, aromas and colors shifting with every step.

We really enjoyed our trip to Canada! We loved the historical walks we scheduled in each city. It is a great way to get to know more about the area you are in and get ideas for further exploration. Our guides were knowledgeable and very open to questions. We also really enjoyed the food tours we went on in each city. It was fun to learn about the food of the region and sample things along the way.
I can't say enough positive things about the activities that were arranged for us and the flexibility Zicasso’s tour company showed. The things we planned were exactly what we had asked for and led to further activities that we selected. We hope to go back again.

Zicasso's travel specialist did an excellent job creating a memorable trip for me and my daughter to the Canadian Rockies. She was extremely responsive and flexible, which allowed us to choose activities we both enjoyed. We especially loved Jasper and our lodge there. The views in the Canadian Rockies are almost unreal and the variety of conditions at different locations was unbelievable. For example, one day we were rafting on a river in Jasper and the next we were hiking on a glacier!
We missed our first scheduled trip to the Icefields due to unexpected traffic from Lake Louise, but our specialist was kind enough to reschedule us on our way back from Jasper to Banff. I will definitely use Zicasso for future travel. Thank you so very much!

The trip was very much fun and extremely well executed! This was our fourth trip with Zicasso and each has been outstanding.
Vancouver Arrival
Our driver was wonderful, collecting us in Vancouver. The hotel in Vancouver was fun, with friendly staff members, and was very centrally located to find yummy food. The hotel restaurant staff and food were outstanding. And the on-site pickup of the Rocky Mountaineer tickets and tags was a plus.
On our free day in Vancouver, we had a marvelous breakfast and then a very fun time at the Vancouver Aquarium.
Rocky Mountaineer
The two-day Rocky Mountaineer train trip was flawless. Not only was the food superb, but the staff members were also extremely attentive, fun, and helpful. Their coordination for overnight stays was exceptional. And, of course, the scenery stole the show.
Accommodations
All of the hotels were very well situated, comfortable, and well supported by local staff members.
Canoe Excursion
The canoeing excursion on Pyramid Lake was an adventure we would very highly recommend, especially to birders. Our guide, whose tour company made this a not-to-be-forgotten event, took outstanding care of us. We were new to canoeing and he kept us warm and dry, even in the rain showers. Most importantly, he was extremely knowledgeable about the local birds and helped us find a pair of eagles, their nest, and a chick! In addition, we were hoping to see a loon in breeding plumage and he found a pair of loons and a nest! The tasty breakfast and hot drink midway through the morning were also most welcome!
Drive on the Icefields Parkway
The drive from Jasper to Banff on the Icefields Parkway was as wonderful as we had heard it would be. We saw two black bears and elk on the side of the road, along with seriously amazing waterfalls, ice-filled Bow Lake, and a few birds that were new to us.
Guided Birding in Banff
We spent three days birding in Banff with our guide from the birding company. He was not only extraordinarily knowledgeable about the birds in the area, but was tenacious in finding them and then ensuring that all three of us saw them. The weather was challenging, but it did not deter him from taking us to a wide variety of locations and finding a wide variety of birds. He was very flexible and paid a lot of attention to our comfort as well.
Overall
The holiday more than met our high expectations and we appreciate the attention to detail Zicasso's travel specialist and the travel company provided. We will happily take another trip with Zicasso!
