Detailed Itinerary
Day 1 :
ARRIVE CHRISTCHURCH
Welcome to Christchurch. The remainder of the day is at leisure. Perhaps visit the International Antarctic Center—a “must see” experience. Overnight: Christchurch
Day 2 :
CHRISTCHURCH—MT COOK—DUNEDIN
Travel across the Canterbury Plains to Mt Cook and on to Dunedin. Overnight: Dunedin for 2 nights
Day 3 :
DUNEDIN
Board the double-decker bus for a tour of Dunedin’s historic sights. Later, enjoy a tour of the Otago Peninsula including the Royal Albatross Colony (seasonal).
Day 4 :
DUNEDIN—QUEENSTOWN
Board the Taieri Gorge Train and enjoy the rugged landscape and sights. Journey to Pukerangi, then on to Queenstown. Overnight: Queenstown for 3 nights
Day 5 :
MILFORD SOUND DAY EXCURSION*
Travel along the shores of Lake Wakatipu to Te Anau, gateway to the Fiordland National Park. Experience a Milford Sound Cruise before returning to Queenstown.
Day 6 :
QUEENSTOWN
A free day to enjoy the many adventure activities.
Day 7 :
QUEENSTOWN—FRANZ JOSEF
Travel north today and enjoy the rugged West Coast scenery through the Haast Pass. Continue to Franz Josef. We suggest an optional scenic glacier flight (own expense, weather permitting). Overnight: Franz Josef
Day 8 :
FRANZ JOSEF—TRANZALPINE TRAIN—CHRISTCHURCH
Travel to Greymouth and board the TranzAlpine Train. Traverse the Southern Alps and travel across the Canterbury Plains to Christchurch.
