Detailed Description
DAY BY DAY ITINERARY:
Day 1: JAYAPURA - WAMENA
Upon arrival in Jayapura you will be met at the airport and transferred to your short flight to Wamena in the Baliem Highlands. Upon arrival you will be met at the airport and transferred to the Baliem Pilamo Hotel, a simple local guesthouse which will be your base for day trips throughout the region.
After lunch you will embark on an exploration of the area including Napua Hill, Sinatma Village, Wesaput Village and the local markets. Return to hotel in the evening for dinner.
Day 2: BALIEM RIVER TREKKING
This morning after breakfast you will be met at the hotel and transferred by car to Sogokmo in the Southern Baliem Valley. Today you will trek through the amazing riverside landscape for roughly five hours until you reach Wesaput. Your trek will take you through rolling hills, sweet potato gardens and over hanging suspension bridges over the Baliem River.
Return to the Baliem Pilamo Hotel in the evening.
Day 3: WAMENA – JIWIKA - WAMENA
This morning after breakfast you will be driven to the Northern Baliem Valley and the village of Jiwika. The area is famous for the well preserved mummified remains of tribal leaders. The Dani of Anemoigi will perform a traditional mock-battle that culminates in a traditional big roast over hot stones.
This evening return to the hotel for the night.
Day 4: WAMENA - JAYAPURA
This morning after breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for the short flight to Jayapura. After settling into the Swiss Bell Hotel you will be taken on a full day tour of the area including the MacArthur World War II monument, the Anthropology Museum, Sentani Lake and the Hamadi Market.
In the evening return to the hotel for dinner.
Day 5: JAYAPURA – BALI
This morning after breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Bali.
