Maybe the exploring in the Sacred Valley / Machu Picchu / Cusco area might have been rearranged for acclimating to elevation a little better. I would have liked to explore Machu Picchu 1st then the Sacred Valley . I found getting my breath climbing Ollantaytambo and Moray a little challenging... Machu Picchu is lower.
Travel Company Comments
Thank you for posting your review of our services, we are pleased to hear that you had a great time; you certainly had an exceptional trip. It is great to hear that your travel specialist worked well for you and that you got exactly what you were looking for when he created the itinerary through the time that you traveled. He and all our team here work hard to make sure all our clients have a great trip. I just wanted to pick up your point about acclimatization. It is our policy here to recommend that upon arrival at altitude that clients first go to the Sacred Valley and spend a few days, then onto Machu Picchu before finally returning to Cusco (the highest point). We have found in the past if we fly clients from Lima to Cusco, then followed by a 2 hours road transfer to the Sacred Valley and another 2 hours by train to Machu Picchu, many clients find this too tiring. Therefore, we prefer to break this journey up a little and suggest that on the first day clients simply fly to Cusco, take a leisurely trip out to the Sacred Valley and rest in a nice hotel in the Sacred Valley. Then in the coming days continue the trip onto Machu Picchu. However, in our next team meeting we will discuss best practices and ideas for altitude and take into consideration your comments posted here.
Once again, thank you for taking the time to post a review about your trip, we are really pleased to hear that the trip was truly memorable for you.
