This travel company was an amazing company to work with. They sent us an example tour based on our interests and we collaborated with them to customize it to fit our travel style. Throughout the process of booking our trip with this company we could tell we were working with experts on Egypt who wanted to make sure we got the most out of our trip. The additional items offered were great additions to our trip (camel rides, felucca boat ride, and additional tombs).Throughout the trip, our tour was effortless for us due to the work that the travel company put in to make sure everything went according to plan. Our Egypt guide was highly knowledgeable, been working as a guide for over 20 years, and provided us a rich experience of the history of Egypt. The order of the trip was well thought-out. We started with the pyramids in Giza (fewer carvings, more massive monuments), flew south to Aswan, where we started to see temples with carvings, then to Luxor, where we saw tombs with bold colors still present, and then back to Cairo to see many artifacts in the museum, but now having all of the context for where they came from and why there were important. The travel company also organized a trip to Petra, Jordan for us at the very beginning before flying into Cairo, which we also thoroughly enjoyed.
The thing that made the overall trip so memorable and enjoyable was our guide. He was fantastic and we learned so much from him. In Egypt, our highlights were:
In Jordan, we were planning to just do Petra, but after talking to our driver the day before, we added in a side trip to Mount Nebo. We are really glad we did so that we could see more of the country side. Petra itself is a must see. We think we walked about 10 miles in Petra, so depending on what shape you're in and how much you want to see, you may want to schedule two days. One full day at the site worked perfect for us.
Once the new museum opens near Giza, if you've been to cities before in Turkey, Middle East, India, we don't think you'd need to spent time in Cairo and instead just stay out near Giza. It takes at least a hour of driving to get anywhere in Cairo.
