Our trip to Vietnam went very smoothly thanks to our travel company. We were met at all the airports by knowledgeable and friendly guides. The hotels were very satisfactory and different in character in all the places, and the meals that were included were delicious. We had the pleasure to meet up with our travel specialist in Hanoi, which we appreciated. It added a personal touch to the experience. Our travel specialist also checked in with us about visa and other plans a few days before the trip. We couldn't have asked for a better service. We highly recommend this company and will tell our friends about it.
Our two-week trip had so many different elements that it's difficult to pin down the most enjoyable parts. Culturally, we enjoyed Hue the most. It helped us understand historic aspects of the country and we loved the tombs and temples. Regarding scenic beauty, Ninh Binh and Halong Bay were remarkable. The junk ship experience was relaxing and beautiful especially after our packed vacation schedule. The most memorable part of the trip was Hoi An in the evening with its lanterns and busyness. This cannot be found anywhere else and was very special. We also attended an evening performance by AO Show at the Lune Performance Center which was one of our highlights. Since the hotel in Hoi An provided us with bikes, we were free to explore the town which was an added benefit of the experience. We especially appreciated the staff at the hotel, and its location is perfect. While a touristy town, it was also fun to stroll through its streets and enjoy the vendors. Throughout the trip, we appreciated our courteous and well informed guides. They anticipated our needs and gave us information not only about history but also about current day Vietnam which was especially interesting to us.
We would make some minor changes to the general planning. We would not visit both Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi but choose one (probably Hanoi for its more temperate climate making sightseeing a little easier). Instead, we would see if we could spend some time in the highlands or an extra day in Ninh Binh as we spent a lot of time in the car between Hanoi, Ninh Binh and Halong Bay (that was unavoidable if we wanted to see both places, of course). We might add one more free day as we so enjoyed our day off in Hoi An just to slow down the pace a little. If we chose Ho Chi Minh City over Hanoi, we would add another day there. With the trip to the Cu Chi Tunnels and Mekong Delta we had very little time to explore that city. Both the tunnels and the Delta were very interesting but that shortchanged the city a little. We never did see the old colonial parts of the city for lack of time.
