This was our best experience traveling. Our guide arranged the trip so everything flowed perfectly.
Everything except the bus ride on our 12th day was enjoyable.
Our guides were professional, informed, kind, personable.
The people of Peru are wonderful, the children- you just want to hug them and bring them home!
The Amazon was amazing! Machu Pichu was beautiful and interesting to look at the structures up close and get the history of it. The rainbow Mountains from the back side where few tourists get to go was probably the most amazing thing we experienced.
The Sacred Valley and how the Inca's utilized the winds on their terraced farms was so interesting and their burial practices.
The spiritual side of the Inca's and modern day Peruvians was very intriguing.
I would eliminate the bus ride to Punto and take the train ride which is 2 hours longer. After experiencing the bus ride and it's inconveniences, and speaking with a man who took the train and it's spacious seating, live entertainment, drinks and food, I would pay whatever extra was needed. Unless you are on a VERY tight budget, avoid that bus ride.
I would also purchase a good altitude sickness pill. I thought I would deal well with the altitude since when I was younger I worked and hunted at higher elevations up to 11,000 feet. Maybe it is my age or being more out of shape but I had a splitting headache that first day and night!
I would also bring my swim suit and a pair of sandals along into the jungle.
We were warned in the jungle to put on bug repellant, but I found that there are less mosquitoes there than in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
I would also not carry my sweater and or coat continually because they warn that it is going to be cold. Peruvians are cold and wearing down coats when it is 65 degrees out. I was in shirt sleeves continually when everyone else was in down coats or fleece jackets.
