Our driver and all the guides at the sites were great. Learned a lot.
The Sahara is definitely wonderful. The drive to the Sahara over the mountains (saw the macaques) and through the Ziz valley was long but worthwhile.
Also enjoyed the Roman ruins, Casablanca Mosque and the souks with all the smells and bartering. Enjoyed the ancient sites.
Enjoyed going through remote villages. Allowed me to see how people still work the land by hand and donkey.
I would recommend the trip to others.
Was not that found of Dades Gorge. Arrived at 5 PM and there was no place to walk around after a long drive. The area was pretty but I felt confined. Would have skipped.
Also would have preferred a different SUV. The Mercedes had several seats facing backwards so you could not see sites that the guide was pointing out. The forward facing seats were way in the back so you could not hear the guide.
My whole family got sick with travelers diarrhea. I was so sick that I could not eat all day or on the 22 hour flight home and had to miss hiking in the Atlas Mountains which my husband said was spectacular. Would have appreciated if the brochure had give a warning that 40-60% of travelers to Morocco get travelers diarrhea and to consider bringing appropriate medications on the trip including antibiotics.
The last Riad that we stayed in was beautiful but the staff was not friendly and my guess was that they did not like Americans. The other places that we stayed were great.
Travel Company Comments:
Thank you for your review and for taking the time to share your feedback. We really appreciate your insights and we're glad that you were able to have such a great time with us on your trip! We aim to give our travelers unique experiences and a different-insider view of our country- so I'm glad that you got a chance to experience that!
We wanted to quickly address the points you made about the Dades Gorges: we understand perfectly your point of view, and we apologize if you didn’t particularly enjoy that overnight in the mountains; However, please bare in mind this particular stop is necessary in order to break up the drive between the Sahara Desert and Marrakech; the only other way around this is to spend the night in Ouarzazate or Ait Benhaddou villages, both of which are relatively similar to the Dades Gorges.
As for your transportation, we apologize for any inconvenience this might have caused! However, we would’ve gladly changed it for you to an SUV or a another Minivan with all the seats facing upfront if you mentioned this during our follow-up calls.
Regarding your unfortunate health issue, we will definitely add that part into our trip booklet in the future. We are deeply sorry that you had to go through that, but we’re glad to know that it didn’t ruin your Moroccan adventure and you still had a great time!
Lastly, we have well noted your notes regarding your Riad in Marrakech and appreciate your honest review. We will definitely take your feedback into consideration for our future trips, since the quality of service from our partners is one of our biggest concerns and priorities.
Thanks again for your notes - it means a great deal to us that you took the time to share with us your detailed feedback!
