Generally, it was superb. Great follow-through on the whole process. You kept in touch and we knew we could reach you. The accommodations were excellent. The schedule and travel details were accurate and ample. The guides were friendly, wonderfully knowledgeable about the history and geography and the cuisine and the wine. We especially enjoyed our guide (sorry can't find his card) who took us on two daily tours, wine tour on 24 September from Colmar, and 25 September the day in Freiberg and the Black Forest. He was fascinating with history, and the region, and just charming.
This second week was also excellent. The same detail and planning from you was very good. We were delighted to find that the instructions you gave (for parking, hotels, etc.) were clear and accurate. The setting and guide were superb. He gave us time, joined us for lunch, and shared his knowledge and experience with us. We loved most of the Swiss towns and we loved Lyon.
The Hotel des Berges and the multicourse dinner with paired wines was absolutely wonderful. A completely memorable experience. We loved the setting and grounds. The staff was warm and most accommodating. The scheduling of 2 days there was just the right thing after the long plane flight. The private wine tours with the vintners that week were excellent.
A comparably superb meal to the previously mentioned one was the grand dinner at Cheval Blanc in Basel. The setting, the service, cuisine and wine was some of the best we have ever had. The hotel was beautiful in location and accommodation. The location of the hotel in Lucerne was wonderful. It was superbly located with a balcony facing the Kapellbrucke. Lovely. In all but 1 hotel our rooms were ready when we arrived.
We loved the hotel in Lyon. It's location was wonderful giving us walking access to this lovely old town. On a friend's recommendation we ate at the restaurant and think you should recommend it. the food tour was great, guide and stops.
Would not want the driver that took us from our hotel to Strasbourg and from Strasbourg to Colmar. He was distracted by his phone and dangerous and we had to speak to him about it. The prepaid 3 or 4 course lunches were too much after wine tasting. We would have preferred to chose lighter lunches. We were disappointed with the Cave Gurlerhoft in Strasbourg...with the food, the service, and the loud cramped setting.
We would skip Interlaken and the hotel there. The hotel was lovely, but big and impersonal, and we found no charm in the town of Interlaken. Our one big scheduling disappointment was Martigny, the time it took to get there and the town and the hotel. We were baffled by your commentary in the original proposal about Martigny. We found it without charm, and the hotel and the recommended dinner in the hotel was disappointing and not a good stop for us. We could have better spent more time elsewhere.
