This company was a wonderful travel agency. Our agent responded to every one of my many emails and did everything to ensure that we would have a wonderful trip. She also contacted me during and after the trip to make sure we had everything we needed. A few months before the trip, she put me in contact with the manager of the villa, who also answered many of my questions. I had many concerns regarding restaurants, grocery stores, directions to the villa, and other activities we wished to pursue on the island. I felt when I arrived with my family that I was well prepared for what the island had to offer.
Unfortunately, I was not as prepared for a few difficulties that arose. For instance, I had neglected to find out how accessible the villa was for someone who had to walk with a cane. I made the reservations over a year before our trip and at that time I was healthy. However, in the months before our trip I had severe problems with my back and knee that made walking difficult, and climbing stairs even worse. I did not think that there might be many steps to navigate and only thought to ask about it a few weeks before we arrived. I also was not prepared for the mosquitoes which were a real problem for all of us. There were mosquito traps in place but they didn't seem to work. I don't know how a travel agency can prepare you for all of these things and still expect to be successful in making bookings for the villas they represent, but I wish I had been better prepared for these things.
The most enjoyable parts of the trip were driving around the island, enjoying the beautiful views and visiting the birthplaces of my husband's grandparents. The villa manger arranged for us to meet with the priests of the two villages and one of the priests was able to arrange a meeting for us with a cousin we had never met. By far, the beauty of the island surpassed my best expectations, and my family members thoroughly enjoyed the pool and the use of kayaks. It was also wonderful to meet the manager, who helped us make arrangements for taxis, restaurant reservations and was there to assist whenever problems arose. She was amazing! She arranged for a chef to cook a delicious Dalmatian meal for us and that was another highlight of the trip. We had more food than we could possibly eat and when we left, there were still leftovers from the meal in the refrigerator.
If I could take the trip again I would ask more questions regarding our accommodations. How many stairs would I have to navigate? Is the villa hooked up to an electric grid or does it only have solar power and a generator? What are the roads like on the island? What about mosquitoes? I will certainly think to ask those questions the next time I travel to a rather remote location.
Considering my health issues and my age (71) I think it would probably be best to stay in a resort or hotel where stairs are not a concern and I have access to restaurants so I do not have to cook. But that is not a criticism of the villa or of our travel company. It is only a comment on what works best for me in my current situation. I think the villa is perfect for families with young children, or families where everyone is able bodied and healthy.
