We visited Australia from the US.
Our travel agent at Zicasso did a wonderful job of planning our trip to eastern Australia to meet our ideas and goals. Her suggestions were appreciated, too. There were some cancellations due to inclement weather in Ulura, and safety issues with the restaurant in Melbourne but there was plenty of other interesting places to explore and things to do, so “no worries”. When one travels, one has to expect things will go wrong (airplane delays, restaurant changes, tour cancellations) that are beyond the control of the tour company i.e. Zicasso. But, most things went beautifully and we were pleased with the outcome of the entire trip.
There were memorable parts everywhere but special ones at each place.
In Sydney and at our agent’s suggestion, we were able to get tickets to Evita at the Sydney Opera House. That was very special !!
In Cairns, our agent also suggested staying at a lodge on the edge of the Daintree Rain Forest. A very special accommodation! Thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and had a wonderful massage, too. We learned to spear fish with an aboriginal guide near Coogi Bay who taught us to find oysters, snails and clams in mangroves. We went back to his house for a cookout! Of course, snorkeling was beautiful and great fun. The tours into and above the rain forest were awesome.
In Ulura, the camel tour and light show was canceled due to rain. So, we went to the camel farm nearby and rode camels there.
On Kangaroo Island, we visited with kangaroos, sea lions, koalas and birds of beautiful colors. Beautiful scenery.
In Melbourne, we visited the zoo and saw wombats, cowassary birds, and a platypus! Brian loved figuring out the tram system.
On Tasmania, we kayaked in the bays and had fish and chips delivered to our kayaks for lunch! I watched the Melbourne Cup with the staff at the hotel and had a glass of champagne with them. Thank you very much for that experience!
Throughout Australia, we visited World Heritage Sites, saw beautiful natural scenery as well as various animals native to Australia, learned a lot of history and culture. And met some very wonderful people!
We splurged on this trip so I wouldn’t stay in all luxury hotels next time, except for the Daintree lodge! I’d plan extra days in places; so that if events were cancelled due to weather, we may be able to do them when the weather cleared. Also, because we were in places for 2-4 days, there was a lot of flying in airplanes and time spent getting to and from airports and time waiting around in airports and with delays...more time hanging around in airports. So I’d either stay 4-5 weeks, going to the places we went to, or staying in one area of the country.
