We have been fortunate enough to be able to travel to many countries around the world over the past 25 years. Spain was one of the few European countries not visited previously, so we were looking forward to the trip to Barcelona and the Andalusia region. Well, we don’t know how to describe our trip without sounding “over the top”, but we had an unbelievable, fantastic time … one of the best vacations we ever had!
Our travel agent put together a wonderful custom trip for us through Andalusia – including visits to Malaga, Granada, Montilla, Cordoba, Sevilla and Ronda. In each city we were led by the most knowledgeable local tour guide who intimately knew the history, culture and sites to see in the city. They did not only provide facts about each city and the ancient sites we visited, but told stories and shared popular opinions about the most famous Spanish explorers and the city’s history.
From Granada’s Alhambra Palace to the beautiful Mosque/Cathedral in Cordoba to the great Medinat Azahara archeological site in Carmona to the Cathedral and Royal Alcazar Palace in Sevilla to the olive oil and wine tasting in Montilla – every site was definitely worth exploring. The Carmen Thyssen Museum in Malaga is also worth your time. The beauty of Ronda is breathtaking.
Our guides also knew the best places for Spanish food and wine! If you never have had true Spanish tapas, then you really never had tapas at all. We loved every minute of those wonderful “lunches”.
If we can dare say anything was “best” – our votes go to both the Flamenco show in Sevilla and the Andalusian Equestrian show at the Royal Stables in Cordoba. These truly Spanish shows were marvelous.
On our last day we hiked the Caminito del Rey, a walk through a very high, narrow gorge. You shouldn’t leave Spain without checking this out.
The hotels we stayed in in each city were terrific – wonderful rooms with unique Spanish architecture and great rooftop or patio bars … delightful places to sit and relax with a glass of wine (and a bowl of olives!) and enjoy the warm weather. Hotel staff were very accommodating and the service was excellent.
Every walk with our guides, every tour we took, every show we enjoyed and every lunch we had was well-planned, thorough, delightful and pure pleasure. We could not be more pleased with our travel agency's trip.
Thank you so much to our travel team.
I would not change anything! If we are able to travel to Spain again, I would have this travel agent plan a custom trip to Northern Spain.
