This trip could never have been done without the efficient planning and responses of the travel agent. We decided to do the trip in our Spring vacation from the University where we are both professors at the last minute. We had a lot to cram in and only eight days to do it. With the help of our travel agency we got to see everything we wanted to see, we saved time with transfers they made by car and train, we missed nothing because of the excellent guides who showed us all the important aspects of every sight and town.
Most importantly the Director of our travel agency made the experiences pleasant with her personal warmth and service. We felt that she took care of all aspects of our trip so thoughtfully that we could relax and enjoy our travel in Spain.
I got fast responses to all my inquiries. Those responses took in to account my questions and gave the answers I need to plan.
The hotels picked by the company were all distinctive and very well located.
We were given tips on restaurants in each of our stops. We liked the ones we found through the tip sheets.
We began with Barcelona, which is much further from Andalusia than I realized. However, we have always wanted to see the works of Gaudi. The guide here, supplied by our travel agency, made sure we saw just about all the works. Her enthusiasm kept us going and her knowledge filled in all we wanted to know.
Our agent suggested that we take the very fast train to Cordoba, which gave us time to sit down and rest comfortably while covering the distance.
We loved seeing the church/mosque of Cordoba with our excellent guide who planned a through tour of the "Jewish Quarter" approaching the mesquita and was able to answer every question. The interior of the mosque and the church which was inserted into its middle are both beautiful, impressive and spacious. Together they tell a tale of cooperation and conflict.
In Granada we got to see the old quarter, Moorish not Jewish this time, which gave a context for the Al Hambra. The guide made clear the many aspects and relationships of this World Heritage sight. I would not have wanted to try to understand it all without her clarity and knowledge.
In Seville the guide helped us take in the vast cathedral and its legendary tower, but also showed us some unusual sights such as the peaceful monastery of the Carthusians and the buildings of an early 20th century World's Fair lost to history but still having a colorful presence in this beautiful town.
I would do it again. I would hope for a little more time. I might use that time to see some of the unusual other opportunities this company offers such as exploring the making of olive oil or the famous local wines, just to give a little spice to the touring of great landmarks.
