When my wife and I started planning our trip to Vietnam and Thailand, we thought it would take a long time to figure out what we wanted to do and where we wanted to go. Not so. I filled out the Zicasso questionnaire and quickly got an email from this travel agency. Our agent quickly set up an itinerary that we liked, after a few iterations. (Much faster than a second company) We were in south Vietnam for 8 days and all over Thailand for 8 more (which was organized by a Thai travel agent). The Vietnam part of our trip was the best. We loved Ho Chi Minh City, the Mekong Delta and Nam Cat Tien National Park. The hotels that we stayed in were all great. Our guide was also spectacular. He spoke very good English and was willing to go and do all of the adventurous things that we wanted to do, like hike in the jungle, and eat strange foods like half hatched egg, rice field rat, fresh water snails, etc. Vietnam is a very exotic country compared to the United States and my wife and I would recommend it to anyone up for adventure and wishing to see a different culture. Our travel agency did a great job of setting it all up and providing a guide for us along the way. Everything ran smoothly!
The Vespa Scooter Tour in HCMC was one of the most fun things we've ever done, although be careful, the drinks were flowing pretty good and I felt rough the next day. We also loved staying in and trekking in Nam Cat Tien NP. I am a bird watcher and my wife loves monkeys so this was the perfect place for us, as we saw many of both. The boat ride through the Mekong Delta was also very memorable as we were treated like rock stars with lounge chairs on the boat and a girl in traditional clothing cutting tropical fruit for us. In Thailand, our favorite part of the trip was the Thai Cooking Class. We went to the market first, and learned many new ingredients. Finally, being able to try many interesting foods was one of our favorite parts of the trip, including deep fried scorpion, BBQ goby fish, BBQ rice field rat, half hatched duck egg, durian fruit, grasshoppers, giant water bug, deep fried snapper and sea bass, etc. Don't mock them until you try them. Oh, we also loved all of the included breakfast buffets.
We spent 8 days in Vietnam and 8 in Thailand. I think we would stay a few more in Vietnam and a few less in Thailand. Not that we didn't like Thailand. We did. We just loved Vietnam incredibly. We stayed in 4 star hotels most nights. A couple of nights, we had evening plans and really only slept in our hotel and were gone the next morning. I would have stayed in a cheaper hotel on these nights since we really didn't spend much time there. We did some physical activity (2 treks and a bike ride) but not enough. I think I would include a zip line or kayak and another bike ride next time. We are runners, but it was way too hot to run in April in Vietnam and Thailand, so I may consider going in November of December, after the wet season, when it is a little cooler and there is more green.
