My wife and I usually travel independently and book our own tours and accommodations. However we wanted to go directly from the USA to Australia and go back to the USA via Fiji. Our travel agency gave us the option of flying Virgin Australia to Australia and home via Fiji Air.
We were not comfortable with not knowing the cost of each segment but were told that they could not legally give us a brake down. When a booked tour for a day trip cancelled and we had to book an alternative we were not able to judge the cost differential because of this. The retail price was less for what we booked but in actuality it cost us significantly more when we received the rebate for the cancelation based on the unknown cost in our package. In addition, the contact in Australia for this and a problem with Fiji air in Fiji both happened on weekends and their in country contacts were not very responsive.
Our travel agency's responses for questions before and after the trip were very good.
With hind sight I would still rather book everything myself and be in control but if I were to use a travel agent I would recommend this company.

#1. About traveler's comments on travel package:
Because of the volume of business we do in the South Pacific, all of our rates are wholesale and are comparable or better than those found online. Our contracted hotel, tour and transfer rates are unpublished, so when we put a vacation package together it is with an understanding that we won't publish individual rates, but rather package with other hotels, tours and transfers. Some people prefer to have an itemized pricing however this is not something we contractually offer, so what we offer is not for everyone. Overall the vacations we put together deliver better value and are custom designed to suit our client's budget, timeframe and interests. The traveler was fully aware that the package price couldn't be itemized before proceeding with booking the vacation and ultimately decided to do so.
#2 About traveler's comments on the cancelled day tour refund:
Unfortunately the travelers tour was cancelled and we refunded in full the amount paid for the tour. The traveler booked a different tour locally which was $20 more per person than the original tour booked with our travel company.
#3 About traveler's comments on the local office responsiveness:
On weekends when our local office is closed, after hours service takes a message, passes it to the local staff member on call and the client is called back shortly thereafter.
