The folks at this travel company were very good and helped organize a nice trip. There were some places that they surprisingly did not seem to have the strength needed for a top-notch firm. For example, we booked our trip for the two weeks around Easter, probably the busiest time for the tour industry in Morocco. Several of the hotels they recommended were full so we had to downgrade. In one place - near the Dades Gorges - they were recommending a hotel/riad that did not show up anywhere on the internet and they essentially said "Trust Us." We could not find many references of this travel company, so the idea of trusting them to pick a plac that NO ONE had ever heard of was unsettling, But I went to Booking.com and found several small hotels/riads that were available in the same area. I am paying someone to look out for my interests.
Our experience was adversely affected by the dreaded stomach virus the last three days of our trip. No ones fault buy our own. But when we cancelled those days trips, all we got was an email saying "So sorry. Hope you feel better soon." Maybe a call asking if we needed medical help would have been nice.
The itinerary was very good. And our driver was excellent. He was always available and willing to do whatever we asked.
The people we met in Morocco was always, always friendly and willing to talk and laugh with you.
I loved the Tagine cooking class in Marrakesh and my favorite city was Chefchaouen.
Upgrade to nicer hotels. After spending three days being sick in a dark dingy room in the Riad, it would have been nice to have a room that had heat and enough light to see. I would also provide the travelers with some free time. We did not need a tour guide of the Medina in every city. After you have had a guide in one City, you don't need to have another guide in another city.
Travel Company Comments:
Thank you for taking the time to write about your trip with us to Morocco. We really appreciate your feedback and we're glad that you were able to enjoy your time in Morocco regardless of the mishaps you encountered, for which we apologize deeply!
With regards to your comment of the Riad in Dades Gorges, duly noted and sorry for any inconvenience. Riads are by definition very quirky and the experience will vary significantly from one to the next. In addition to that, you are correct in that the hotels were fully booked due to the busy period you're coming in; however, Dar Rihana is definitely not a downgrade. Dar Rihana has recently opened and affiliated with Chez Pierre, a hotel we work very closely with, thus transferring trust to Dar Rihana as a result of our great relationship, regardless of their “absence online” that’s only due to their recent opening (they opened on March 1st!).
As for the reviews part, I'm sorry you were unable to find us online and wish you had asked me for references or past reviews, as I would’ve gladly shared with you not only feedback but also contact of some of our previous travelers to chat directly with them- we’ve done this in the past many times. That being said, Experience Morocco does have reviews, as we are highly praised throughout the American travel world amongst agents and agencies. Though there may be some confusion online as there is an agency called Experience-Morocco (with the dash) that we often get confused with. We also have over 100 reviews on Zicasso, if you'd like to refer to them. I understand your concern in trusting a group of people you don't know; however, we'd like to ensure you we have your best interests in hands, and your safety and satisfaction are our priority.
Also, thank you for pointing the lack of necessity of a guide in every medina. After many years of creating different customized itinerary, we realized that most of our travelers appreciate having a local guide at least for the first day in every city to ensure that they gather their bearings before letting them discover the roam on their own to avoid any confusion, and to ensure a seamless trip. However, we understand that some travelers can be more “independent” than others, and we would’ve gladly minimized the guides for your trip if you expressed your wish to do so.
Lastly, and regarding you unfortunate health issue in Marrakech, Dounia from our team along with other agents from our Ops team (including the company’s Co-Founder) did reach out to you both by email and phone upon hearing news of your illness along with the cat-smell incident you alerted us about, to see if there were any additional services we can do on our end. Also, you were offered to change properties, which you declined. I'm sorry if you felt that wasn't enough, but please let us know what could have been done differently to ensure your comfort.
On behalf of the entire team, we’d like to thank you again for taking the time to share your constructive feedback and experience with us!
