We were quite satisfied with the services of the travel agency, even though there were things that we would have liked to have differently. We were lucky to have a very good and service-minded driver who also spoke English. The guide spoke English with a relatively slow pace and clear pronunciation, which was very good for us who do not have English as a native language. He was very professional, always ready to answer our questions but leaving us space for ourselves. In the beginning of the journey we were provided with a cellphone so that we could call the driver or the guide any time we needed them, day or night. We travelled from Rabat through Fez to the Atlas mountains, dwelled in a luxury tent in the Sahara and returned to Marrakech. The only negative experience was the last three days of the trip that we spent in Marrakech. The two restaurants that the travel agency had picked for us near the Dema El Fna square were rather unpleasant (but obviously used by many travel agencies). Actually, one of us was obviously served food that was not quite alright (most probably the sauce) and got sick and did not recover until many days later. We also found that the "tourist menu" (traditional Moroccon cuisine, tagine, as we were told) gets a bit boring if you have it every day, and we would have chosen more variety in the selection. The last day we refused to have the tagine, and paid extra in order to get a sirloin steak. In spite of this the trip was enjoyable and all the arrangements as agreed beforehand.
Since we have travelled a lot in the Arab countries, there were many things that we found quite similar in them all, but there were also differences. The three most memorable things of this trip were perhaps the drive through the Atlas mountains, the sunset and sunrise in the Sahara, and the hamman that we visited both in Fez and in Marrakech. Also the hotel in Marrakech with all its tropical plants and the Berber Museum inside the garden was very interesting.
Most probably we would spend less time in the souks - they are the same everywhere - and instead go hiking in the Atlas mountains. It would also be nice to spend more time with the common people, but in that case one should speak French or Arabic, since these are to the languages generally spoken in the country.
TRAVEL COMPANY COMMENTS:
Dear Lea, Thank you for choosing to travel with us on your Morocco trip! We greatly enjoyed hosting you and we are actively taking note of your feedback to improve our services in the future. Specifically, we are introducing more variety to the restaurants in Marrakech to offer a greater choice of cuisines and avoid Tagine fatigue. In addition, we took note of your point regarding time in the markets and we would be happy to welcome you back for a trip centered on hiking and the Berber villages in the Atlas mountains. Thanks again for taking the time to share your feedback and we hope to welcome you again to Morocco in the future!
