We had never been to Europe or Italy before so when we initially contacted Zicasso online we weren't sure what to expect.
Our first email was returned within an hour along with a proposed itinerary for our 2 week visit to Italy. Over the next few weeks we discussed specific areas of interest, places and towns we wanted to see, hotel preferences and budgets.
The staff at this agency handled every one of our questions quickly and efficiently and provided us with many options until we finally nailed down exactly what we wanted to do.
We are lucky that the company has one of their offices close to us in Toronto, so one day we stopped in to meet with the staff and go over some trip details. Our agents sat with us and made us feel completely comfortable with the choices we had made.
Not wanting to deal with rental cars or driving in Italy, we had booked private drivers to take care of all of our transfers too and from airports to hotels. I can't tell you how much we loved this part of the service provided. We were met on time, every time with english speaking drivers who very often acted as impromptu tour guides and gave us wonderful amounts of information as we travelled.
We loved everything about the trip, but especially the side trips we took from cities like Sienna and Florence to towns like Volterra, Rada, San Gimignano and Montefioralle. These were the jewels of the trip where we were able to enjoy some wonderful sights and hospitality.
Rome was a fantastic metropolis and a great way to end our trip.
Our travel agency really made sure everything on our list of Wants was taken care of. However, if I was doing it again I might have increased the budget a bit to do smaller more private tours of the big hits. The group tours (max 20 people) were very well executed and seem to be the common way to see sights like the Colosseum, the Vatican and the Uffizi but if we could have done a more exclusive tour, I think it would have been worth the extra money.
Also, while every hotel we stayed was clean and friendly, the comfort of the beds were our only criticism. We stayed in what were billed as 4 star hotels, and in both Sienna and Florence the bed mattresses were quite a bit more firm than we were used to. If you are accustomed to a soft type mattress, you may want to consider booking a hotel closer to a 5 star who seem to offer a bit more choice in comfort levels.
