The travel company we chose to work with was quick to bid on our Zicasso travel request (they phoned me the morning after I sent in the form). They had quickly grasped what we were looking for and were immediately easy to deal with, as well as being highly professional in their approach.
I travelled to the South of France with a friend, and we had some idea of the itinerary we wanted, but it was refined and perfected by this travel company, and everything was booked for us with ease. Our agent was a pleasure to deal with. A few days into our holiday, he phoned us to check that everything was to our satisfaction (it was) and he emailed us his ‘bon voyage’ on the day we left for home. It’s this kind of attention to detail that makes customers feel they are being well looked after.
I’d highly recommend them to future travellers.
The holiday was multi-destination, a road trip along the Cote d’Azur with private drivers, who took us away from the coast and into the hills to explore all the towns and villages along the way. (Nice, Cannes, Juan Les Pins, Valbonne, Gourdon, St. Paul de Vence, Grasse, Les Baux de Provence, Gordes, Rousillon, Lourmarin, Ile sur la Sorgue, Marseille).
My friend and I had done a similar multi-destination trip last year in Italy, but there was a huge difference here. In Italy we had a different driver every day, sometimes two on the same day - one to take us to a destination, a different driver on the way back.
On this trip we had the same driver for 4-5 days, and what a difference that made. We managed to build up a relationship with both of them, and they became more like tour guides and friends than drivers. Worth their weight in gold, with suggestions for restaurants and local wines, tips on the best places to visit, teaching us some French, learning some English, having a laugh, sharing their lives and stories.
Our first driver gave us the name of a beautiful restaurant overlooking the Bay of Cannes – L’Air du Temps at Theoule-sur-Mer, so we took him to lunch there and had a wonderful time. Our second driver introduced us to his home town, and his son. They made the holiday special.
If I took this trip again, I’d cut out Marseille altogether. We stayed in Les Baux-de-Provence for our last five days, which was a great centre to explore the area. Next time I’d pack up my bags in Les Baux and take a taxi straight to the airport. There’s nothing exciting abut Marseille. Not the Old Town, not the Port, not the restaurants. Just leave it out.
I’d also make sure I made restaurant reservations earlier. Some of the more popular/gourmet restaurants need a couple of months’ notice. We hadn’t realised this. And if I had to say anything negative about our travel agent, I’d say they were not on the ball when it came to recommending restaurants with enough time ahead to get a booking.
But all in all a wonderful trip!
TRAVEL COMPANY'S COMMENTS
Thank you, Judith, for your detailed review. It is really important for us to be in touch at the end of the tour and find out what your final thoughts were. I have taken on board your comment about the problem you had making restaurant reservations and have made a point with my colleagues to complete our ‘Roadbooks’ earlier as a result. We will not always be able to guarantee a full roadbook two months ahead as numerous details change in the intervening period, but we could certainly do a search of some nice blogs and create our restaurant recommendations far in advance. Thank you sincerely for your review. - Objectif France
