Our 16 day trip to Vietnam and Cambodia was everything we hoped for, and this travel agency was a pleasure to work with both before and during our journey. They were very responsive and flexible during the planning of our trip and they executed all the details flawlessly. We felt like we were in good hands every step of the way. The hotels they selected for us were outstanding places to stay in each location, and the guides they provided were well-informed, personable and flexible about tailoring activities to suit our needs. We would highly recommend this company to anyone planning a trip to Southeast Asia.
There were many highlights of our trip, including:
-- Getting a new perspective on the Vietnam War, through museums and a visit to Khe Sanh and the DMZ.
-- Exploring the streets of Hanoi, especially the old quarter and the amazing street life around the downtown lake during the weekend.
-- Three beautiful days at the resort in Hoi An. Exploring the city of Hoi An, especially at night when the city is lit with hundreds of lanterns and the river is lit with floating candles. The resort in Siem reap was our other favorite place to stay.
-- A beautiful day and night on a cruise ship on Halong Bay.
-- Delicious food in every city we visited, new vegetables we had never tried (Tonkin jasmine flowers, morning glory, banana flower), great salads with pomelo and papaya, having pho for brfeakfast, and great beef, chicken, pork and fish prepared with amazing flavor and spices. And of course, spring rolls and bahn mi! Our travel cmopany made some great recommendations regarding restaurants in each city.
-- Visiting the temples around Siem Reap, including a sunrise visit to Angkor Wat. We found the ruins of Angkor Thom and Ta Prom equally interesting.
-- Visiting the "floating villages" outside of Siem Reap.
The one thing that would have made our experience better would have been the opportunity to meet with people who had lived through the Vietnam War, or who had some real expertise on the history of the war. Our guide to the DMZ was a young man who had little direct knowledge of the war. This was a major interest of ours, and visiting places like the War Remnants Museum was nice, but we would have liked the opportunity to have spoken with some people who were more knowledgeable about the history.
