This trip surpassed our expectations. We have traveled pretty extensively in the US, Europe and South America. I am pretty much a do-it-yourselfer and do a LOT of research into everywhere we go. We like to stay in unique properties and do not enjoy being herded along with a big group into the usual tourist traps. But this year was particularly hectic for us and I did not have time to plan our trip so I relinquished control to this travel company through an inquiry to Zicasso.
I received an immediate response to my request through Zicasso from 3 companies, but liked the itinerary that this company proposed. They seemed to "get" what it was we wanted to do more than the other agencies.
Once we selected our travel company, our agent was very prompt in answering questions, tailoring the trip to the kind of experience we wanted. When I had questions about some of the items he proposed, he get right back to me with clarification. He helped us sort out the "must-do" from the "nice-to-do".
The drivers the company arranged were prompt, courteous and were a wealth of information about life in the cities we visited. The guides were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. It was wonderful to not to have to wait in any lines to get into museums, palaces, monastaries, etc.
As other travelers with this company have mentioned before, the agent likes to meet his clients at some point during their trip. He met us for a glass of wine at the Parador in Nerja and we enjoyed putting a face and personality to the person on the other end of our emails. That was definitely a special, personalized touch.
When we got to a new city, we had a professional, personal tour of the highlights of the city. Then we had a day or two to explore on our own at our own pace using the advice of the guides about what to see, where to eat, where to get the best views of the cities and towns.
The Molino de Arco Hotel on an olive farm outside of Ronda was a particular treat. We were upgraded to a very spacious suite with a deck overlooking a gorgeous view of the hills around Ronda and the city itself. After being in the busy cities for about a week, we were happy to have a place to relax and take it all in. It was nice to be out in the country with quick access to Ronda.
Actually all of the hotels were well located and comfortable.
We love food and wine. When this agent recommends a restaurant, go there! We tried several of those on his list and they were all excellent, especially the ones in Lisbon, Sevilla, Nerja (especially amazing with a very humble but talented chef Juan who we saw several times around town after dining in his restaurant and he came up to us and gave us a big hug each time) and in Granada (we had a home town connection with the owner there) as well as Barcelona.
We had a lovely lunch after wine tasting at a winery in Nerja. While it was a windy road to get there, it was completely worth every bend in the road to get there.
I would try to get to Cadiz as we heard how beautiful is it.
I would be SURE to read the car rental contract thoroughly before taking possession of the keys. Be certain it includes everything you ask for and nothing extra.
